Well... hopefully they'll bring it out soon. If it retails for $1500, I can get one on ebay for a grand in a few months... that's what I want!

I can't stand waiting... I'm just impatient by nature.

I'm really glad to hear that not only is this coming out, but they're putting in it EXACTLY what I asked for above - double DIN, touchscreen, NAV, no DVD video. The enhanced nav features, whether or not I end up using them are nice to have around. As long as I can afford it.

here's a tip for you ebayers... never buy a brand new piece off of ebay... most of the time they still have problems and need to work the bugs out of them... and you probably won't be able to return it...

the d1 also doesn't have drivers view which sucks... if enough of theses units sell they will definetly start upgrading features in the unit, like they did with the AVIC N series...

They seem to have a whole site built around the AVIC-N1, so that bodes well - they also have software updates downloadable, which is nice. I'm not too worried about this being a first generation unit - I seriously doubt that all of us 05 tC owners are too worried about the bugs in the head unit, especially since those will probably be fixable. The only thing keeping me from buying the D1 off ebay (other than having the money to spend on it) will be the fact that I doubt they'll be much cheaper up there for a good while. I might want to get something like this from crutchfield because the install instructions are probably pretty damn hard.

I had one of the first n1's and they had small problems that were not repairable by software alone.. go figure... you'll need a custom kit for any d1 or double din unit until someone smart enough realizes that there is a market for these units and makes a custom one, that still probably need minor adjusments...

I have a feeling that by the time Crutchfield starts selling them, someone will be selling a mounting kit - I mean, they'll fit in the opening, right? We've got plenty of people with the other double-DIN kits installed already. There is just a gap on the sides and you need to redrill the bracket a bit to get the cover to close, from what I've heard. I can't believe nobody else is doing this right.

Eh... I'm really not interested in anything that isn't a clean integration with the head unit - I don't want an "outboard" GPS unit - I want one that leverages the nice big screen on the head unit I've already got. If I wanted to be thrifty, I'd just use maps.

Pioneer will launch a Double DIN GPS unit in the spring. Following the link you will see a photograph taken by "Urban Racer" during CES 2005.

Enjoy it.

Right. We've talked about it. That's the one I want. Next time someone posts about it, it should be "I just bought one"

Hehe, when that new Pioneer AVIC-D1 comes out with XM TrafficNav, you'll probably see my Eclipse AVN2454 go up on ebay for $1000.

Wow... those things are pretty expensive - how do you like the Eclipse uncompiled? What don't you like about it? Other than trafficnav, what does the D1 have that you're looking for?

It still amazes me that people are willing to spend those kind of $$$ instead of just reading a map. JMO

if you ever had a nav in your car... you would never want to mapquest anything ever...

Right - there are a few times (house hunting being one) where it's totally great. But we all know it's one of those things we want more because it's cool than because we need it. My dad bought one in San Diego - the city he has lived in his whole life. I doubt he ever needs it, but he sure likes it.
