can you post how 4 A/c Prewired LEDs, 4 trunk prewired leds and 2 kits of cold cathodes and 4 led strips would look with a switch for it all and Add-a-cricut, in a drawing, nothing fancy.

cause I need major help

dj - that's really pretty straightforward. juice from the add-a-circuit goes into the switch, and then out to a 2a fuse. I would probably use a 16-18ga black speaker wire and get a ground right there. (you're going to have to route the positive wire, why not bring a ground along for the ride?)

anyhow, wiring up to the fuse is simple. wiring all the components is very simple too. the only tricky part is how to lay it out properly to build onto it in the future. a lot of folks will put some tubes under the seats, and three months later want to do leds in the vents, and end up running another wire.

how do you get around running multiple wires? one solution is to lay a main through the whole car. In an xB, it could be done like the following, assuming the switch is in the center console under the a/c.

(before you start, realize that you will be using this wire a lot in the future. you'll want to be able to identify it, and you will want a bit of slack, where appropriate)

1) Run a 3-4' loop down behind the kick cover, and under the carpet to the console between the seats.
2) take the end of that loop up underneath the glove box to the passenger kick panel
3) run the wire up to the passenger a-pillar (if you don't think you'll EVER need lights in the headliner, ocraps, or anything, skip to step 6)
4) pull both a-pillar covers, mirror and sunvisor hardware. if you open both front doors, and pull the weathertripping off, the front edge of the headliner should sag enough for you to fish a wire under the headliner
5) run the wire down the driver's a-pillar, pull a small loop under the steering wheel, and then back underneath the driver kick
6) pop the doorsills up, and run the wire up to the b-pillar
7) pop the rear doorsills, and run the wire up under the back seat
8) in the hatch, pull up the cubby and spare, and fish the wire through, bringing it around to the other side of the back seats, and as far toward the rear door as possible
9) go to the rear door, pop the doorsill, and run the wire back up to that side's b-pillar
10) go to the front door, pop the doorsill, and run the wire back up to the driver kick
11) if you skipped the headliner steps, run the wire up under the lower part of the dash
12) terminate the wire by cutting, separating the two ends, wrapping them separately with electrical tape, and then together with another piece of tape. secure.

now, you have a fairly convenient spot anywhere inside the car from which to tap, all wired to the same power source, and all on the same switch. When you do tap, it's a good idea to wrap the taps in foam and tape it down to prevent rattles.

hope that helps

(edited for spelling - damn kbd)

so with the B apart and my butt stranded and hungry in parker, How do I complete the circut? where do I run a ground and how do I connect em all together? Words at this point are like reading chinese.

"anyhow, wiring up to the fuse is simple. wiring all the components is very simple too."

so the red one is Pos, and it connects to the power source, but the Black goes where?

__________Red____Switch___power(add-a-jerk)
Light<__________Black______________________Ground?________then where?or

what?

For multiple lights then do i add those where the Words "Red and Black" are, respectivley?

any bolt in your car is a grounding point, connect your black wire to any bolt inside or outside the car and it will be jsut like connecting it to the black terminal of the battery

Add-a-circut sucks my left rear tire. I can't get anything to work properlly with it in. more junk into the Drawer.

I ran a power and a ground all around the car. Its accessable for anything. But to do all that Proper work and then toss in Add-a-jerk, and all that work is useless.

I'm running a power cable, from the battery to an Inverter, Can I use that for the lights too? and what would I need to use? hardware wise for the inverter and the lights?

are you still stuck with this dj?

i didnt use an add-a-circuit in mine, I used a horseshoe terminal, cut off one side, and jabbed it into the empty slot in the fusebox, I think it's second from right on the bottom, but just to be sure, pull up the tech article:

Thanks for the write-up on the headliner stuff.

I'm fixing to put some LEDs in the oh-jesus handles in my xA, and I want them wired to the dome light AND a switch, and I can't think of any other way to do that than to get a wire from the dome light... Am stressing taking my car apart for this, but more confident now to have read your step-by-step.

Am almost done with my car lighting! 2 4" blue cathodes under each side of the dash and under each front seat... blue LEDs in the cubbies, one blue LED in the rear cup holder... then green 4.7" LED strips in the handles above... they will come on with a separate switch AND when the dome is on. Will be a nice light when hitting the unlock on the key chain. I'm pretty excited about it. But I doubt I'll be done then. But I THINK I will be. Until I read about another something or other I want to add to my xA.

Thanks again,
Andy

Today I realized I don't need to get into the headliner, after all. I'm going to tap into the wire for the light that comes on in the covered cubby. I will run eight hot wires from there up through the pillars and ground each of the LED strips locally. There will be two hot wires to each LED strip -- one powered from the cubby light, and one powered from a toggle.

I'm eager to see it in action. Now I have to decide between green or blue -- maybe white -- LED strips.

Oh, and DJ, don't give up on the lights. I was afraid to start... and now I think I've become an addict! I hope I can stop before I pass the realm of the tasteful additions.

Funny thing. After tearing my car apart several times, I remember how much fun it was when I used to wire my own car stereos, etc.
