Default Ok think I have my system set...

I was originally going to go all out and do a carPC for my tC, but after some through the real 2 benefits I would have would be ability to store alot of MP3s and the GPS Ability.

A couple things finally changed my mind in doing this, #1 doing all that work hehe. #2 GPS really doesnt matter that much to me honestly. #3 I could only do XM not Sirius and I hate XM compared to sirius.

So here is my new system that I am putting in. I work retail and get Infinity accommodations, so thats why youll see alot of infinity stuff.

Head Unit - Kenwood Excelon X979 $399 Etronics.

Speakers - Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5 Component Speakers for the door and Infinity Kappa 5 1/4" for the rear. $200 direct from Infinity through my work.

Subwoofer - I've gone all out and had 3 12"s in a previous car, and honestly as I've gotten older I dont need THAT much, a good amount of bass is good, but thats overkill to me now. So I will be doing one 12" Infinity Kappa sub. ($52)

Enclosure - I will be building a custom sub box.

Amp - Infinity Reference 6 Channel. This amp has 4 channels that will work great for the inside speakers, and then 2 channels that I will bridge for the sub, the 2 channels for the sub are higher wattage then the other 4 channels and will put out 290 Watts for the sub, which is fine since the sub is 300 Watts RMS. ($149)

MP3s- Kenwood CX910 Excelon Music Keg. This thing plugs right into a Kenwood unit and is basically a 20 GB HD and a dock type thing for MP3s, uses playlists and everything. (Crutchfield has these on sale for $350, normal price is $600).

Kenwood Sirius Tuner - We have one sitting around at work that Im gonna buy for $15.

Sirius Antenna - $39.99

The speakers have already been installed, and obviously don't do too well with the stock radio, can't turn it up much currently before it pops and distortes. So going to do this very soon.

Soooo any thoughts?

Ya overall Im not going for overwhelming... just solid crisp clean sound, and I think this will nicely accomplish that. And I get all the functionality I want.. Sirius, MP3s etc. Im helping my buddy put in his system, and thats gonna be sickly loud.... 2 400 Watt Pheonix Gold Amps... 1 600 4 channel, Infinity Kappa throughout, and 2 12" Kappa Perfect DVQs... and its going in a firebird LOL (my old one), if youve ever heard subs in a firebird its sick, probably the loudest of any car ive ever heard.

The only real bad thing Ive seen with the infinity's is the ability to blow them, they blow easily if you under power them.

The real nice thing Ill be doing is the enclosure and stuff, I work at Circuit City and the car stereo guys here are excellent. I'll be running the wires and everything myself, and will be mounting the keg box and sirius tuner under the passanger seat. The amp... well the tC has in the trunk on the left wall... it is straight then curves a bit, so we will be carpeting a board and mounting it vertically over there, and then I can run the cables behind the board, and down underneath the trunk mat. The sub will be a bit more creative, under the mat on the right side there is the foam thing with a few compartments, we will be removing the whole thing, and creating a custom fiberglass molded enclosure that will basically go down in that area, itll prob be about .9 cubic feet, so well use a decent amount of polyfill. The sub itself will point up and there will prob be a small bump and well tilt the sub itself, toss a grill on it, and carpet it all the same as the original carpet. So all youll see in the trunk is a amp on the left side wall, and the sub grill on the right side of the trunk. I think it will turn out fantastic.

Theyll be doing some of the install, Im going to run the wires and stuff, but their gonna fab a fiberglass enclosure, and jim here had some cool ideas. Theyll be mounting the amp and that too most likely. Ill deff post some pics of their work once it's done.

i'm kinda confused by this i know alittle about speakers but how will under powering them blow them, wouldn't that also cause them to blow everytime you lowered the volume?? or do you mean that their under amplified and clipped to death.

Exactly, distortion is the quickest way to blow a speaker.

Wooo what a day, hot sunny, and Im slaving away outside hehe. Have all 3 sets of RCAs run, amp power cable, sirius tuner cable, and music keg cable run, speaker wire run. Taking a little break now. Will have the head unit, and all cables done by tonight, the amp and sub are still on their way, so the amp will get mounted and installed as soon as they come in. The sub will prob be a few days due to the fact the fiberglass enclosure needs to be made. The speakers will still be using stock wiring so I can use the headunit without the amp until that gets put in. The wires are run there, just not connected.

Well it's all together... and the keg wont work. It wont work daisy chained to the 902 tuner... so now either I get the 903 or the KCA S210A to work it, the 210 will work for sure, the 903 not really sure.

Finally got the amp wired up, everything but the sub is in since Im going to do a custom fiber enclosure.... I have to say even without a sub it sounds amazing. Will take some pics of my amp install as soon as I can, we have it mostly done, waiting for the glue to dry for the carpet.
