hope everything stays the same with the paint. it shouldnt flake i have seen a few subs painted. one was in tha link i posted on the thread. those solobarics are way stronger then those sony u got. and can really move so i know that the paint would be able to stick on your sub. even though it was on the middle of the cone.:D

I know this thread is almost a year old, but I was wondering if Storm13 ever had complications from the painting of the subs.

The painted subs are still going strong! Absolutely no flaking, peeling or cracking. They still look brand new and I've gotten many compliments on them. I showed them off at Wolrd of Wheels in KC a couple weeks ago...if anybody was there they can vouch for me.

paint does infact effect the performance of the driver *speaker* because it is adding mass or "weight" to the cone. but because it's so very little and done propurly, the diffrence is unnoticeable. when adding mass to the cone, generaly you would add powdered metal grindings in with the paint. increasing the effective mass of the cone decreases the FS point of the cone. so lets say you had a sub who's FS was... 35hz and you ad an extra 50 grams. your effetive mass would cause your FS to go down to say... 32hz.

it's great for sound quality and HiFi tuning, but cuts down on your overall powerhandeling ability.

FS = resenence of the speaker's cone, generaly you wouldn't tune your vented enclosures below this point or else the cone would flopp out of control and damage it's self. the lower the FS the lower it will hit, but too much added mass can totally ruin the BL and QTS stats which tell you the amount of motor control. the higher the BL the and the lower the QTS, the more control you have. when you add weight to the cone, you decrease your effetive BL and increase your effective QTS. if too much weight is added, your speaker will become very slow and nonresponsive and will give you a very muddy rumbeling sound no matter what note it's trying to it.

but you have nothing to worry about, you're well in the green.
