i have a psp also, i really dont care for it. the umd discs appear like they will scratch too easy, cant carry it in your pocket since they decided to leave the spot wide open where the disc is read, instead of making a cover that sldes closed over it like a floppy disc or minidisc.

i really wish it would play minidiscs.

the volume on it is too weak, even with headphones, it makes the movie hard to hear in a non quiet enviroment.

the hold button is same button as power button, so if u slide it too mush you shut off the system.

the screen/whole thing scratches way too easy. not easily replaceable either

uses sony proprietary memory cards which means they cost more than other kinds of memory cards.

poor manufacturing, not only oes it have dead pixels but lint under the screen

there are some good things tho, the screen does looks sharp, spiderman2 looks good on it, even though the movie does suck. graphics appear to be pretty good. wi-fi for playing multiplayer

but even with this, until the price goes lower and some of these issues are resolved i will be returning it and staying with my gameboy advance.

I don't even play video games, I play this crazy game called "the internet." I was just playing devil's advocate.

The dead pixel thing is super lame. I think sony's replacing them free.

There will probably be a clearguard-type screen protector released before long to deal with the scratching issue.

You seem to be a real stickler for a $250 product, TOAST3R.

Just because the disc portion of the UMD is exposed doesn't mean they can be treaded differently than other optical media.

Minidiscs would be out of the question. Sony is trying their best to fight piracy.

As for your headphones. I use a pair of Sony Fontopia earbuds that are real good. I heard the PSP earbuds are crap. Using studio headphones? Get a portable amp (CMoy/Zmoy/etc).

The Hold/Power button is the same switch technology in most Sony portable. I have the same type of switch on my CLIE and have no problems with it.

Hairline scratches are nothing. If anything, get a screen protector...

You should've known that before you bought the PSP...

That's a problem with most, if not all, LCDs. At least the dot pitch is smaller than the DS. The DS's dead pixels look like dead ants on your screen. As for the dust *shrug* My CLIE N760 had a spec or two, no biggy. My NR70 had a spec later in its' life. My NX70 and NX80 had sealed screens. The reason why they probably didn't seal the PSP's screen was because of overheating issues. (People will be playing it for a long while...)

I keep my SP (with 256Mbit flash cart) next to toilet. :D

whoa...this looks like a rant. It isn't, really. It's just most people should know these things before buying a PSP...

Sony isn't replacing LCDs like Nintendo is...Dead pixels near the corners don't bother me. Dead pixels in the middle don't bother me...but STUCK pixels...yeah, those bother me.

As for the screen protection. There are quite a few out now. I like the ones Brando sells...

yes but you cant just carry them around in your pocket. and the cases the games come in are too big to really be portable.

it wouldnt have been that hard to make a lil flap that covered it when it wasnt in the psp. then you could put them in your pocket and not have to worry about scratching them.

and on the headphones im not complaining about the quality but the level the volume is. its not loud enough, i tried other headphones even. it just not as loud as other portable devices i have.

Don't start up on the Sega Saturn! I have to break it out now and play with it now as a matter of honor. I think I have like 40 games for it. It was the first machine I was able to access the Internet with. All you XBoxers and Networked PS2s have the Sega Saturn to thank for breaking that ground~

My favorite Saturn games are Bugs!, Virtua Fighter, Nights and Panzer Dragoon!

Damn, now I gotta go find it and hook it up.

Default PSP portable web browser

Here is a reason to get the PSP. Also, a cellphone module and a TV tuner are in the works.

Not exactly a cheaper solution, but a better one:
Put a mac mini under the seat!

Default get this device . . .

Get something called an "iRock" or something like that. All it is, is a connector that allows you to tune your radio to a staion and have the audio come out of your car speakers. My friend mounted his to his center register in his BMW, it's no the cleanest install but he said he'd rather drop a couple hundred bucks instead of a thousand bucks for a headunit. I'm still trying to figure out how I can mount mine.

Default Mini Mac

Mini Macs are cool. But every touchscreen I have had didnt have Mac drivers. I have a Mac in the livingroom hooked to a 20" LCD use it for MP3s. Havent tried it on a 7" but I guess it would look OK. I have been thinking of networking it to the car to upload mp3s to the mini-itx PC via Bluetooth or 802.

Actually there was an adapter for the Super NES and Genesis that allowed you to access the internet and play multiplayer games online, well before the Saturn. It was called XBAND.

I didn't think other Sony Haters existed. Not that I hate PS2, I play it as much as I play my XBox, I just can't stand Sony and their holier than thou attitude. From ATRAC, to Mem Sticks, UMDs and so on. The only item from them that I'm proud to own are their Fontopia ear buds because they're cheaper than Shure, and more comfortable than Panasonics. Other than that, they're over priced and over rated.

BTW, I have a reason to hate. I'm an gadget junky and I work at a Circuit CIty and prior to that, I made my fair share of money through high school reselling electronics.

PSP needs some games. Seriously, I bought the thing as soon as I could, and now its sitting around, collection dust. It's a waste until sony releases some good games for it. GTA: Liberty City Stories looks decent, as does Death Jr, but It's been way too long for the PSP not to have a "killer-app"

Anyways, as soon as I get back, I'm mounting an NES into my xB. Nothin' like the old school games.

While the PSP is definetly not perfect, I have to say I find it pretty darn cool. I won it as a prize so I have no complaints on cost or "getting ripped off". As far as car installs, I wasn't looking at doing any custom install since the purpose of the PSP is to be portable, but the docking cradle works great in the car and connecting the PSP to the aux port in the car is great for watching movies or playing games with the audio running through the car stereo! Playing ridge racer or any other game with a good sound track is awesome this way. I'm sure some of you will dissagree but oh well. It fits in the passenger side cubby hole well too, so it would be ok for long drives to let a passenger watch a movie. I use it more for games and data storage myself.
