Nik, you're awesome!

Edit: I'll try to get some pics of the back of the '08 radio up this weekend.

well, i cant all the credit. Bob Howard Scion in Edmond, OK gave me cpies of the diagram for the aux inputs of the o6 and 08 xb.

I am also adding a aux input to my wifes mazda cx-7 and thats why i had the resistor, caus eon it, you have to trick it into thinking it has a tape deck.

the resistor make s the radion have current, but also senses resistance so it thinks something is plugged in.

Anyway, i put the 2 ideas together and TADA, aux input works

If you do this "fix" can you select between the iPod cable and the aux input?

i believe so, but i have not put in my ipod cable yet. It would just be like having something plugged in the aux and ipod at the same time, i think it would let you select between just like the button that says am / sat lets you swithch between

Thumps, so you already have your cable from the back of the head unit up to the console? So is this what you needed and did it work.

I have a 2006, which has the steering wheel controls I think they call that a 2006.5. Anyway.. I am assuming the wiring harness for the back of the head unit to the console is there I just have to connect them. Then again after reading all this I am thinking there is anothe cable that connect from this wiring harness to the actual console and then another cable that connect from the iPod to the console connector.

So is that the two cables you got? Gosh I am losing hair on this project! LOL ;)

too hook up a ipod in a 2006.5, you need a 72$ cable that puts the jask in the ipod plug in the console. if you take up the plate in console, there is a plug there not attached, this is the ipod cable, but you still need the jack and the cable that goes from the jack to the ipod. these total about 150$ from the dealer, but you can get the ipod - jack cable cheaper of ebay.

yes, just ut a resistor between pin 14 and 19

Thanks for the reply....

So what would need to look up or search for on Ebay exactly. If I were to go through a dealer which I doubt, what Part Number(s) would I need to search for?

Also thanks for the reminder on the resister, I will pick one of those up today.

YOU WILL HAVE TO GET ONE CABLE FRO MTHE DEALER, AS I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE FOR SALE ON EBAY, JUST LOOK UNDER SCION IPOD, AND YOU WILL SEE CABLES, LOOK FOR ONE THAT GOES FROM THE IPOD TO THE PLUG IN THE CONSOLE

No, I still don't have that. That's what I thought I was ordering from the dealer. I was wrong.

No, the PT546-21060 is not what I needed. Turns out it's a short cable with a a plug cover. It is the cable that you install in the panel underneath the e-brake, and the cover says "iPod". However, I still need the cable that runs from this cable to the Head Unit.

I have a 2006, which has the steering wheel controls I think they call that a 2006.5. Anyway.. I have a 2006.5 with steering wheel controls also. My guess is that unless your car had the "iPod option" dealer installed, you will NOT find the cable that runs from the head unit to the console in your dash.

So is that the two cables you got?
No, the two cables I got are both short ones (~6"). One is designed to fit a square hole in the panel under the e-brake, and it has a port cover. The other is designed to connect to the iPod, and then connect to the port in the above cable.

Gosh I am losing hair on this project! LOL ;)
Me too, but I *WILL* solve this, even if I have to resort to scouring junkyards for iPod equipped scion wrecks.

Nikbrewer, I bought your recommended resistors from Radio Shack last night. I'm hoping to get some time this weekend to try out placing the resistor to see if it enables the aux port. If I have success I will take pictures of the resistor placement.

mine was a 2006.5 with out the ipod option. if you have steering wheel controls, you have the plug for the ipod, its just taped back in the harness, its also underthe console, , but its taped up, atleast mine was. They sell a cable on ebay that goes into the ipod plug strait into the ipod for 70$, thats also an option

Nik, I guess I need pictures then of where the cable is taped too.

When I installed the 2008 HU I looked around back in the space behind the radio/underneath the heater ducts and didn't see anything that looked like the cable.

Yes, when I took off the stock '06 Head Unit, there was an empty socket where (I assume) the iPod cable was to be plugged in.

Now, maybe there's a chance that the previous owner had another radio in there, and previously unplugged the iPod cable, let it fall down somewhere and never plugged it back in when he re-installed the stock radio before selling the car.

I'll try the other end - I'll pull up the trim under the e-brake and the the gearshift shaft and see if I see anything there.

Whoah, hold on a second, just realized I may be really dense.

My xB already has an Aux port down under the E-brake, which worked with the '06 radio. Obviously there must be a cable that connects that Aux port to the Head Unit.

Does the iPod port plug into a connector ON THAT SAME CABLE? If so, maybe the empty socket on the head unit that I thought was for the iPod is for the satellite radio.
