Thumps did you make any progress with that 08 wiring harness? Just curious as heck to see how you made out?

No, I had classes all day Saturday and Sunday, so no time.

Next Saturday is going to be a major "work on the xB" day (putting in fogs, projectors and intake) so I'll play with the iPod/radio some more then.

I know that there was a seperate topic about this but wanted to clarify and I also seen the prior post about getting the parts from a junkyard.

I have the 04 xB (the car was NOT pre-wired for iPod nor did it have the steering wheel controls)

Will the premium HU work with this?

What cables do I need?
I know there was mention of Apple ipod Interface cable - SC12235 - I cannot seem to locate this. The eBay selller that had some before shows 0 - anyone know where else this can be purchased.

Before I purchase this Premium HU (PT546-00081) I would like to see if it is worth the $200.00 or if I should just do the Pioneer FH-P800BT which sells well under $300.00

Thanks in advance for the help.

^Honestly I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble of chasing down the console cable from the junkyard and then the added expense of buying all the other cables to go with it for your '04.

For me it was cost effective to go with an '08 Premium in my '06.5 since I didn't have to buy any cables(had them from my previous '06 Premium unit) or get an adapter for steering wheel controls, of course since yours is an '04 steering wheel controls is one thing you don't have to worry about. The preouts and built in cross over are the main reason I went with it, for the money I paid it was cheaper for me than going aftermarket and adapting everything to work.

I'd go aftermarket if I was in your situation, that's just my opinion though.

Thumps, earlier in this thread you mentioned P/N PT546-21060. Did that arrive? Can you post a pic?

Thanks,

Dave

so the 21060 is actually a package that consists of the 061 and 062 cables, it's not a standalone cable?

Just remember when you buy the 08 head unit is should come with part 062, at least mine did. So, all you need is part 061 which will give you the iPod connector on console which of course part 62 plugs into. That is if you hvae an 06.5 xB.

Scioninla I agree with 4150, unless you can find the wiring harness really cheap at a junk yard, along with the needed cables, It just wouldn't be worth it for your 2004 xb. My buddy did this and he got 2 of the cables at the junk yard for for cheap, then we cut the holes in is console which he didn't have and basically made it work. It looks good, but if had to pay for the wiring harness along with the two parts mentioned about it would have cost him $400 or more with the cost of the head unit. These cables aren't that cheap even if you buy them on Ebay.

Another thought, with the cable that BillC mentions above, you don't have to worry about the wiring hardness for the iPod as this replaces the wiring harness and the two parts above for $70. So, you just have the cost of the 2008 OEM and this cable. This would not give you the aux-input though you'd still need a cable for that.

I was wondering if this would work on a 2005 xB? I am not sure if the connections are the same as the 2006. Thanks.

It will work, but you won't have the aux-input, ipod connector harness or steering wheel controls. There is a cable available that will go from the back of this head unit to give you full use of the iPod without having the stock connector cables.

Given that, I'd actually look for another head unit myself. The only reason I went with the 2008 head unit is because I had the aux input, iPod connector cable and XM dealer installed option which all works with this head unit.

But the connectors are the same from the 2006 up to 2008 model.

Yes the 08 head unit uses the same wiring harness so other than the Aux-input everything else works including the steering wheel controls and iPod connector.

that sucks when people move pics (page 7).

ive also got the 08 HU in my 1st gen and found that the AUX / IPOD didn't work.

i don't care about the ipod thing because i don't have one and don't ever plan on gettin one.
so from what ive read, all i need to get the AUX working is a 1k ohm resister and it to pin 19 & 14.
could some one post a pic of the resister on the plug so i can be sure of how it should look (since the pics were deleted)
