Default Question for those with aftermarket headunit...

Well, my xB is arriving here this weekend, and have a brand new Eclipse 3434 deck to put in. I have seen one pic where someone mounted their deck in the little opening dealing below the stock stereo. Thus seems pretty cool because the stock stereo looks nice. Anyone else do this? What is that little opening for? Or did you just pull out the stock and put it in with a double din slot.

I did this a few weeks ago. It's more involved than you think and it's worth doing if you're going to be putting a monitor in the stock head unit location.

So, unless I use a screen, just use the stock location?

Well yah, what other reason could you have for putting the head unit in the storage bin?

yeah. I put mine up in the stock location since it came with the harness and moutning adaptor. I'm only going down below if I decide to put in a screen.

Beause the hatch can be closed, and someone won't know I have a deck there. Eliminating more chances for stealing.

You missed the point. I was asking why you would put a head unit there if you weren't planning on having a monitor in the original stereo location. If you're going to keep the stock headunit in place until you get a monitor then I see why you'd do that.

I don't know where any pics are, but you have to take it out, cut off the back (because the radio's deeper than the box you're trying to put it in) and cut little holes in the box on the top bottom and sides so that the sleeve that holds your new HU in place can be used to secure it in the box. That's my understanding, anyway.

No, I think you missed my point. The reason is that if the little hatch is closed, no one will know I have an after market stereo. If they don't see one, they won't break in to steal it. In either case, I figured it out. I think I won't because I heard the deck heats up too much after a while of use in the cubby.

yeah, I think what you'd need to do is cut the cubby off right behind the length that I mentioned above that you'd need for that sleeve.

Did you read the last part of my post??? "If you're going to keep the stock headunit in place until you get a monitor then I see why you'd do that."

You're so smart, nobody here has ever figured out that you can shut the little flap and cover up the head unit.

Wow dude, what's your problem? I didn't say I was the first to think of it, or that no one knows about it here, or that I'm smart.
I live on a damn island. There are 2 Scions here. Unless they put it in the cubby, then closed the hatch, and had their car broken into, and deck taxed, no on will know I have it. Do you inderstand what I've been getting at?
