Default Radio station data on stereo?

Maybe someone can help me out with this....Ive seen a few factory stereo's, lexus is300/GS300, audi a4, and the checy cavalier to name a few, that display the broadcasting stations handle as well as artist/song title on the display of the stereo.
None of these cars had XM or sirius subscriptions, though they may have been xm/sirius capable/rigged.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket head units that do this? My eclipse 5435 appears to have this capability for sirius, but not standard FM.

some radio stations use RDS. the station can broadcast info through the airwaves and compatible radios will show the info. it never took off so only a handful of stations use it.

^^^^^ What he said

I have a girl friend with a Cav that has that feature.
I was quite jealous that my xB has such a nice HU but not
that feature.

Hell, the stock HU can't even scroll the title of the song!!

Violent...I knew that part, about the stations sending the broadcast, though I did not know the name of the technology, so that's some help to me I'm guessing that RDS is sent over the air with the braodcast of the radion station, and that no extra external antenna is requirted, just a unit that can decode/display RDS, correct?

Thus far, it seems that this is more embraced by OEM units, rather than aftermarkets. That seems puzzling to me.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket units that support this?
