Default Replacing the rivets in front mids?

For those of you who changed out their front speakers...did you guys just use regular screws to replace the rivets that you have to drill out? If so, what size screws did you use? I'd rather not start randomly buying and trying different things and messing things up for myself.

Use new screws, I suggest predrilling the holes so you punch the cone on your new speakers.

I used new screws but I cant remember what size. I used a screw and then a locknut on the back. I just took the speaker into the hardware store and found a screw that had a nice fit in the speaker and then bought that one. If the holes in the door are too small you can always just drill a couple new holes real quick but the holes in my door were plenty big enough.

Sorry I skipped a part...I cut a mounting bracket out of 3/4" mdf and mounted the bracket with screw and locknut using the existing rivet holes. Screws were flush mounted. Then I screwed the mids into the mdf bracket. Self tapping screws are a real good idea.

If you really wanna do it right... after you drill out the rivets, tap the holes and use machine screws and threadlock paste.
