scion security...
I see many people saying that the Scion Security option is pretty useless. So what does everyone do about their security then? Aftermarket route? If so, which ones?
I like the type of security the new 05 Camry's have. My parents have one and they make this new (new atleast for Toyota Camry's) beep beep sound. I was wondering if I could use this same alarm system on the tC.

I like the Scion system actually. No annoying honks/beeps when armed/disarmed. It disables the starter which, coupled with the key system does a good job. If someone is serious about stealing your car, they are going to just drag it on a flatbed, alarm screaming, and drive away anyway
The one year warranty on the alarm is nice too. If someone steals it in a year, they pay your deductable.

Aside from maybe paging (and the price), what more do you want out of a security system? No one really gives a rats ___ when an alarm is going off anyways... "hey, someone turn that off." I guarantee you'll almost NEVER hear "someone should call the cops, i bet that car is being stolen".
That being said, I have Scion Security and think it's just fine. But I really have it more for the insurance discount.

Has anyone noticed that the tC's alarm is extremely loud and almost peircing? If you stand in front of the car and set the alarm off you can damage your ears, unlike most cars I've seen. My Sebring convertible's alarm was TERRIBLE... and my parent's Yukon's horn is definetely not this loud.

I got it for the cool keys you get hehe.
Mostly you get it to keep it OEM and for the auto lock/unlock feature.
If someone is going to steal it, they will if you have an alarm or not.
Best alarm deterents out there are to remove your steering wheel everytime you get out of your car, or to put one of those battery connectors that you can remove/ screw out a special peice that kills the connection to your battery....

I really like the fact that it's quiet when you set and unset it. And the beeps make sense if you sound them out:
beep = lock
beep beep = unlock
No loud honk, just a quiet beep and a quick light flash.
And like most people say, if a pro wants to take it he will. It will help keep the kids from taking it, but a pro will just drag it off on a flatbed. Luckily they are new so the demand for used parts is not high - when they say Camry and Accord are the most stolen, it's seems to be models from several (6 to 10) years back. Like the ones that would be breaking down right about now, and people want to fix up for cheap. That's my theory.

ShadyEye: I think the thing with the keys is that it's all in one, yes, standard with tC... BUT you don't have to carry a second remote or unit or anything with it. It's just the key for doors / alarm.
lowlevel: There's no beep at all. it's just the light flashes with the OEM security. One flash locks. Two unlocks. Four unlocks all.

I just had a 2-Way Compustar Alarm/Remote Start installed on my 5-speed, and couldnt be happier - TONS more features than the optional Scion security. Id definitely reccomend an aftermarket security system over factory unless you HAVE to keep the single key without an extra fob/pager remote (or you really want the deductable benefit).

Or what you mean by your choice is by getting an aftermarket alarm system that has a beep?
