Reducing the amount of insurance payments depends on state, insurance company, and type of policy.
For me it does reduce the amount charged, by roughly $100/year.
Remote start is not a part of the Toyota/Scion remote entry and alarm, but I'm sure it can be added...

Call me lucky, but regardless of what I have told them about my cars, all 4 insurance companies I have had over the years listed security, ABS, etc for my cars and got me the discount, so I have no idea what it would be without it.

My dealer, who is in Indiana, the state where I live, and the state where my insurance knows I live, said it would. My insurance company said it would not... after I got the overpriced Scion security.

If they don't reduce your insurance cost for vehicles that have alarms vs. vehicles that don't, you don't need to be insured by them. Look around and call or go online to insurance companies to get a free quote. They will be able to tell you exactly the savings you will have rather than asking the people on this forum if they can or can't save you money.
It is recommended to use both halves of your brain to make wise choices.

I didn't get a discount either!!!
And Scion Security is OVER RATED! augh! Doesn't even work unless they break a window.... The keyless remote start with two way pager is cheaper from Scion Specialties and goes off when your car is touched!!!
Gotta look into the insurance thing...

Yeah, Sher, the Toyota/Scion alarm goes off once armed if it 'hears' a loud sharp noise (like window breaking), if any door is unlocked without a key or the remote, if any door is opened, and sometimes, just because it feels like it. (They all do that.)
If the alarm options are set up to do it, the alarm will also automatically arm immediately, 15 seconds or 30 seconds after the ignition is turned off and the last door is closed.
I have mine set to auto-arm in 30 seconds. This means if I forget to lock the car, the alarm is still set after I walk away, and it will scream for help if a door is opened.
Most are not set to do this by the dealer, but the instructions for setting the options are in the manual...
There MAY be other individual options that can be set, also, and, as you know, the sensitivity of the alarm's 'ear' can be adjusted.
It's not a totally bad or useless system, just misunderstood.
