Default Steering wheel audio controls

I have a base model 05 xA with no audio controls on the wheel. I want to either replace the wheel with one that does or just get the control module for the current wheel and connect it to my Kenwood DPX-503BT. Is this possible? The head unit is factory wired for remote in rear of unit.
How big of a task would this be? I'm aware I'll need to remove wheel being sure to disconnect batt etc. Just wondering if it's as easy as plug n play or if I'll need controllers, adaptors or any other stuff. May be easier to just reach over. Lol
Any info would be appreciated.
