Default steering wheel controls.

on my 06, i'm in love with my on the wheel controls, but as most punks my age, want a better stereo.

here's my dilema, how do i get a nice stereo and keep those controls working?

am i limited to the stock headunit and just add amps and decent speakers?

I also want to put in those little dangling ***** around the top interior like lowriders do, so besides that being dumb, is there a place to get them for self installation? anyone seen that done on an xb?

O, I also want mariache music for a horn, ala cheech and chong, who can put me in the right direction?

if you want to keep the controls... eclipse has nav units that are plug and play..

otherwise you can get an adapter.

Yeh- models from Pioneer, Alpine and others can use a programmable adapter... which varies from one HU to another-

http://www.pac-audio.com/

Cructhfield, for example, is really good at putting you together with a compatible HU and interface adapter...

On the same subject does anyone know of an adapter that will allow me to control my Panasonic CQ-VD6503U with my 06 steering wheel controls? I can't find a pac-audio adapter that will work.

I started this thread a while back while trying to figure out how to keep the steering wheel controls and add a nice aftermarket head unit:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=144968

I ended up going with an Eclipse CD5425 and I couldn't be happier. The CD3000 and higher models have the steering wheel control interface for the current models.

I posted where to find eclipse radios that are compatible and also have a picture of the CD5425 installed.

The nice thing about the Eclipse head units is that you only have to connect 3 wires and you're done; no need for an expensive adapter.

Eclipse has a nice assortment of add-on stuff for these head units as well. iPod adapter (IPC-106 will display iPod tunes, charge, and control from the head unit/ steering controls) , SIR-ECL1 for Sirius (also can be controlled/displayed on heat unit/steering controls), HD radio, etc.

If you have a non-iPod MP3 player or want to use a portable satellite radio player you can go really inexpensive with a PIE aux-in adapter. Cardomain has them on sale for $15 (RCA input only). http://www.sounddomain.com/item/PIEECLERCA

Or you can get a 2-way aux input for $25 which has 3.5mm and RCA inputs and will also charge the iPod http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIEECLE3NPUT

You can pick up a new CD3000 for right around $200. It has front/rear/sub 5v pre-outs, plays MP3s, and is a nice looking deck.

you'd need an '05 airbag assembly which isn't cheap.

best to find someone with an '05 willing to make the swap.

you'll probably need to contact me or someone who's an expert on wiring to get the controls working on the other person's car.

Default 05 for 06 swap?

I have an 05 stock wheel, have been looking at using an 06 wheel for cruise control.
Anyone know of any differences in mounting and air bag issues?

you'll need to swap the entire thing completely and need all the wiring necessary as well.

the wheel, airbag... wiring.. all needs to be replaced/installed.
