Sub filter??
I am going to install an amp and sub in my car this week and was wondering what is the best way to filter the subs?
I am running the stock headunit with a pair of rca's running off the stock harness. I was just wondering if i should filter the amp with the rca conections ot the subs with the speaker wires. Forgive me for not using the proper filter names as i have not have subs in any of my cars for over ten years now.

What do you mean by filter the subs?
Typically if you are running the subs of the stock head unit you will need to use a line out converter in order to change from a speaker wire off the head unit in to a RCA in to the amp.
If you do a search you will find lots of info here.
Good luck.
By the way, try not to change the colour of your font it can make it difficult to read.

You want a crossover of some kind. I recommend an amp with one built in (I have a Blaupunkt PCA2120 that I rather like that can switch between high pass, low pass, and unfiltered, with variabile crossover frequencies).
Failing that, I take it your head unit doesn't have a specific subwoofer output? Many do.
Either way, a sub isn't going to do any good without some sort of low-pass frequency filtering. It's good to ask these questions, because those who don't ask drive cars that give kazoos a bad name.

I am thinking of using an old (late 80's) precision power amp that i have laying around. It has no croos over in it at all. I think if i ues it i will get an active one before the amp

That old PPI amp is gonna be good, don't even need to know which model is. A new amp will be more flexible, most all of them now have a built in x-over and can be had fairly cheap. But if your just looking to do this as inexpensively as possible then something like this should work just fine for you....not too costly, active, will let you match the lower input voltage of your older amp, and is a decent brand. I don't know anything about that website though, just an example.
