Default tc guage led change question

has anyone done the tc clock and temp guage consles without cracking the lcd?? what was the process to do it without cracking the display? i've searched and seen the diy's but it seems like the lcd seems to always crack when it's been done. just wanted to see if anyone's figured out how to do it right. i'm looking to get that area done in blue.

You just need a solder sucker or de-solder braid to remove the solder from the pins holding in the LCD. Once you do this the LCD will practically fall out. People crack it by prying on it or just by being impatient. I used the solder sucker and was able to remove it in less than 3 minutes, twice without any damage to the screen.

^^^^ I'm with ya on that one buddy. As soon as the weather gets warmer, I'm gonna do some experimenting with my own center console. Ain't scared.

He meant the blue led's aren't nearly as bright as the red ones you have because the blue or white ones run at a slightly higher voltage than the red and it makes them look dim.

Mine are the same way (as well as just about anyone else who's done blue or white). The gauges light up fine and are bright enough, but since the center console doesn't supply enough voltage for the blue one's, they look dimmer. This remains the most popular unsolved mystery on this forum.
