Default trip meter #2 going very fast

I've had my 06 xB for over a year with no problems, still averaging 33MPG. I have never used second trip meter. The first one I use all the time for miles per gas tank.

Today I set the second trip meter to zero so as to find out the distance from my house to a beach and discovered that it appears to change in increments of approx 100 yards. That is to say after I've gone for about 1000 yards it shows I've gone 10 miles or some outrageous distance.

I haven't seen this problem mentioned in the forum.

My concern is, is it worth taking into the dealer to have them fix it while it's still under warranty. I'm very concerned that they will mess up something in the process of removing the dash board and goodness knows what else to repair/replace the meter. It would take an incredibly conscious person o remove and replace the dashboard without marring its finish.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kerry

Default .......Too many miles....

Kerry: No need to worry, the instrument cluster/pod comes out without removing the whole dash. One tab is on the underside above the idiot lights. Once that is poped out, you can just pull the speedo cluster tward you and it will unsnap.
I swapped out my speedo faceplate and no dash damage resulted.

Go to the dealer, your other distance measurers may be off as well.
How many miles does the odo say?

Trip meter 1 and
Trip meter 2 if set to zero at the same time,.......
Trip meter 2 will log more miles, is that correct?

Strange. Go to the dealer. If they mark the dash then they must fix it.
Take photos before and remember to inspect the dash after (but before you drive away).

On my 2008 Xd, the odometer and tripmeters read correctly, but my "MPG Average"
reads about 8% hign, consistantly.

Re: "are you sure you are reading it right?
there is a dot in that number" I'll check again next trip but it sure looked like 10 miles, And, it wouldn't be 1.0 miles for just a 1000 yards, right? When I got home from a 30 mile trip it read about 75 miles.

Thanks for the tips and reassurance xBHAWK 8/M about the easy removal of the instrument cluster/pod. Before and after photos are a great idea.

Thanks all,

Kerry

Update:

My bad. Sure enough there is a dot and it was reading correctly. Too much pakalolo.

Thanks all,

Kerry

As they say, "It's not your dad's pot." One toke works—or so it's rumored. Seriously, the THC is now so sticky (strong) that washing ones hands doesn't always remove the oil, so dogs can smell it.

BTW: We hav "sooting" guns heere in Hawaii also.
