Default where's fuse box on the 06 xB, hooking up GPS speed sensor?

i looked under by the pedals and couldnt find it.. must be right there and im just missing it? can someone please explain in detail where its at and how to access it?

more specifically i'm trying to hook up my speed sense wire for my eclipse avn6600. i hooked it up to a purple/white wire which i found on the only BLACK plug connecting to the ECU under the glovebox and i'm still getting "check speed pulse" on my GPS. did i connect to the wrong wire?

hopefully someone can clear this up.. thanks

anthony

I'm showing a Purple/White at the radio harness to be the speed sense wire. the 2005 and before models had the Purple/White wire at the plug under the dash. the fuse box is behind the little pocket below the steering wheel to the driver side.

BTW, nice radio, good choice.

There's a little cubby down low by your left knee. That cubby also doubles as the cover for the fuse box.

i dont understand... can someone make a suggestion? i'm using one of those little red splicers if it makes a difference. this stinks.

If you think it might help, I could send you the instructions for installing the Rostra cruise control - it's got into on finding the speed sensor wire. That way you could be more sure that you've got the right wire, and that maybe the problem is with the t-tap you're using. (Or if you're impatient, you can find the Rostra instructions on the web - they're not hard to find.)

thats cool, id appreciate that.

however, i am assured that i am tapped into the purple wire with white striped that goes to the speedometer. thats a fact, lol..

im going to see if the problems fixes itself maybe..then check the splicer thing.

oh yeah since ive done this, i have a check engine light, my traction control light says its off, and theres a little light that says "VSC" lit up on the dash... what did i ruin?

PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send it along. BTW - what year do you have? I've got two install manuals, one for 2004-2005, and another one for 2006.

What GPS unit do you have? Most units take a while to calibrate the speed sense. Both of my eclipse units said "checking speed sense" or "calculating" or something like that while the system calibrated. It just took a little driving around to get things right.

Also, it has been my experience that the purple/white wire is the same at the module under the glove box, on the top right of the fuse panel, and headed into the speedo.

hope that helps.

yes whether i'm moving or not it says check speed pulse. i still have the 'VSC', 'Trac Off' and 'Check engine' lights all lit up along with the check speed pulse on the GPS. what is the VSC light for?

VSC = vehicle stability control

Humm this does not sound good when all those Lights are lit - sounds like a connector is loose or . . . gulp . . . you fried something in the ECU box. The guys that were tapping into the dome light found out that the little blue box that controls the dome light and door locks was about $485 . . . I didn't think it was necessary to tap into the vehicle for a GPS - is it more accurate for navigation? Mine just sits on the dash. Sounds like you need to dig into the manuals section for some info.

Unfortunately I'm mostly senile and can't point you to any specific threads, but there are a host of things that can make a bunch of lights go on all at once. IIRC (but see previous comment about senility), most of the causes aren't a big deal. Do a search and see what turns up. I'm thinking you'll mostly be relieved.

Also, when in doubt, back out your changes and see what happens. It may be that you'll need to do an ECU reset. There are folks around here who know way more than I do about this stuff, though, so take whatever I say with a fair amount of skepticism (and see previous comment about senility).

yeah i'm not too worried about the lights, i read in some other threads that those lights come on when tapping into the speed sensor wire but are supposed to go away after a while. My real concern is, why do i still get "check speed pulse" on the screen when im tapped into the correct wire AND i have the lights to prove it! lol...

ill reset the ecu (pull off negative battery terminal) later when i get home and see how that fares. i guess i'm back to searching now. i've searched so much, i think i've read every thread on this board on the VSS/speed sense subject.
