Hey guys, I have seen the threads about the Crutchfield subs that fit in the XB cargo space. I also saw one at AudioFormz.com. Any thoughts on these units? Also, do you have one in that area? If so, where did you get yours? Post your pic and let me check it out please! Thanks!
I purchased the 100 watt Bazooka along with the harness for my Scion XB and it was very easy to install. Only thing I noticed when originally installing it myeslf was:
1. The sound seemed to have a slight "rattle" to it at certain volumes.
2. Although I set the amplifier gain (volume) control on the subwoofer at what I thought was optimum level for most of my listening, I found that for talk shows there was booming that I really did not want and also that for music that I really wanted to have full effect it was not there and I was too lazy to go back and adjust the gain for each item, particularly since the mounting that they specified was with the subwoofer in exactly the middle of the cargo space.
3. The mounting of the sub over the spare tire the way they specified took up way too much space and I did not want to lose that storage place plus, in order to get the spare tire out I now would have to unhook the sub every time. Also, they had the output of the sub facing only an inch or so from the surface of the hatchback door and I was concerned that at high volumes it might have a bad result.
So.....I made a few changes:
A. Purchased the remote gain control...very reasonable cost, with the associated wiring and mounted it directly underneath the cigarette lighter. It was also very easy to install. Now, I can drive down the road and adjust the gain on the sub amplifier whenever I want to although most of the time I leave it alone except when I want full effects.
B. I made myself a very sturdy steel bracket that bolts underneath the rear driver seat belt bolt and also through the very sturdy bolt positions just below the rear left side window behind the rear left seat. This permitted me mounting the subwoofer vertically instead of horizontally. I faced the woofer output downward.
With the above changes I am extremely pleased with the subwoofer. The "rattle" sound is totally gone and I think the overall effect in the Scion XB is much better than the way they specified to have it mounted. The vertical mounting I now have means that it is positioned up fairly high next to the rear side window behind the left rear seat and just over the hump for the rear left wheel which is waisted space anyway and can not be used for storage. I was concerned that the vertical mounting might have some adverse effect on the life of the sub so I called the Bazooka manufacturer and they assured me that it would work just fine in that position.
I will show pictures if I can figure out how to download them to this forum correctly which so far I have not mastered.

Yeah, I would like to see your pictures of that. I had a Bazooka many years ago when I was a kid, but haven't used one in a long time.
Here is mine, homemade. There are a few posts out there with other pics.

Your pix looks really great. For mine, as mentioned, it is over the rear left tire hump which would be to the extreme left in your picture. I like it out of the way there as I can use the full space of the storage area.
I have a grill for the sub now. I try not to put too much on top of it but the sub is plenty protected. In a few weeks I plan on building a platform that will sit a few inches above the sub and give me room to mount my memphis baby bell in the area next to the sub and not loose any storage space. I'll post up some pics once I get it done.
