Default xB Antenna hookup different for 2006?

Recently I added a new Alpine Deck into my 2006 xB.

My reception is horrible in Monroe, Everett, Duvall, which was great before the deck was installed.

I took it into Car Toys and They said they couldn't find that Black/Red Power Antenna Lead wire and that the schematic that has been floating around for 2004/2005 doesn't match whats in the 2006 xB

Did the 2006 change? What am I missing here...?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon Lynn

hmm, shouldn't have changed. You could always get an antenna booster.

But apperently many people are finding that the installers aren't hooking this up properly....

Shouldn't need an antenna booster if it's hooked up right.......

Anyone have a schematic for 2006 XB? I was speaking with Tomas and he's lookin for one still.

I don't know how your Car Toys store is but if it is anything like the one here then I would say that's your problem. Car Toys installers here suck so bad!!!!! They lit the only car I ever brought there on fire and have heard horror story after horror story about them around WA.

Well back to the stereo, the sites I found online and my dealer says it is the same head unit. I don't know first hand though.

I have '06 Wiring Diagram (not handy right now) but IIRC, it is very similar to the 05 one posted by Tomas in:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=106788

If you install an aftermarket radio and don't hook up power to the antenna amp, your reception will stink.

I'll try to post the diagram later (within next couple of days).

Er... https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...750847#1750847, from the 28th. You should have gotten a PM on that, Jon...

{edit} Just checked, the PM I sent you (1:19AM/07-28-06) is still sitting there unread, Jon...

Yup Tomas is correct. Here is a scan from my 2006 Wiring Diagram:

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7162/antennahz4.jpg

As you cans see, the connector iand pin are still the same as in 2005. As long as you feed the PWR ANT output from your aftermarker radio to the black/red wire on pin 8 of the blue connector R2, you should be all set.

Er, do you happen to have the 'other half' of that drawwing showing the remainder of the new wiring for the 2006 head units? (Steering wheel controls, aux/iPod input...)

If so, I'd like to add it to my 'collection.' :D

Thanks,
Tom

Ok, so I finally figured out what they did.

I ripped the dash out myself and looked at the install.

They have the Remote Lead Turn on plugged into the Amplified Antenna Wire.

My deck has a Power Antenna lead...but they did not use that, since they figured why not just have it on all the time........

I called Car Toys and they say this is normal, and the remote lead or the power antenna should be fine.........

My radio reception still sucks......and they swapped the deck out for a brand new one today :-(

Thoughts?

The remote turn-on lead in most head units will not provide very much current (usually 250-300mA), so there is a limit to the number and type of components you can activate with it.

I don't know about the remote turn on lead on your new unit, nor do I know the power draw requirements of the antenna amplifier in the vehicle.

Bottom line, I don't know for sure if the 'remote turn on lead' which is simply meant to trigger remote equipment's power switching, not to actually power remote equipment, is powering your antenna amp sufficiently. (It's usually a fairly high resistance 12VDC trigger voltage.)

Yup, I have the entire 50 dollar book.

Strangely iPod is not shown on the "other half" It is only shown on the overall wiring diagram (elswhere in the book).

I hooked up the Power Antenna Lead off the deck........reception seemed alot better, after completing the wiring and putting everything back together, reception got a bit worse.....although I think it was better than before......

I'm gonna play around with it......see what I can come up with.....

I'm also gonna drive it around tomorrow see how reception is.
