xB dash speakers
did a quick replacement of the dash speakers this afternoon. What is in there is a small two tab speaker with an OEM plug affixed to the bottom
I installed a 4-tab 4" coaxial polk audio speaker. I simply broke off two of the useless tabs (which are made to be removed), unsoldered the wires from the OEM speakers (making sure i marked which one came off the resistor side), soldered the wires with the OEM plug back onto the Polk speakers and re-installed the speakers.
Small issues associated with the install. The magnet on the bottom is deeper than the OEM, so I put a small adhesive backed piece of felt on the plastic vent cover to keep any vibration at bay. And the coaxial is a little taller than the OEM due to the tower for the tweeter. Basically, the cover is resting on this tower causing it to bow slightly. In the future I may recess this area out slightly on the back of the speaker cover to allow it to sit totally flat. But for now it's not noticable enough to worry about. I had my wife come out and look at the covers and she didn't even notice that they were slighty bowed up in the center.
Again, there are no special mounts needed to install the speakers. Just a simple matter of removing the tabs that you don't need.
I also installed small pieces of molding caulk on the tabs of the speaker cover to stop that annoying dash rattle. If that doesn't work, at least I have a little more music to cover it up
