Default xB stock audio question?

I dont know much about audio and sorry if this is repetitive question. I'm on 56k still and it takes forever to search.

I want to know detailed specs on the stock head unit and speakers. How many watts does it give out and how much watts can the stock speakers handle? and please correct me if I'm wrong but the fronts are 5.25" and the rears are 4" ???

I'm not looking into buying a whole system was just thinking of upgrading my speakers.

Thanks

Honestly, I would upgrade the HU before upgrading the speakers. The speakers are actually pretty decent, you just can't tell because the stock HU hinders their performance so much. I am running an Alpine CDA-9827 which puts out 18w x 4 RMS and 50w x 4 peak and it sounds great in the car with stock speakers. Seriously, look into a new deck before speakers.

Honestly, I'd keep what you have until you can afford to upgrade a few components at the same time.

As the above said, if you're not really deep into car audio, the stock speakers will serve you well for now.

Thanks for the input guys.

A friend of mine sold me 2 12" JL Audio speakers ... not sure which kind. Is it wise to have this box and amp installed and run the stock speakers? I just dont want them to get blown and how bout watts? How much do I need as far as an amp?

I know I also have to consider lots of things such as style and budget but I have a pretty decent job and patient enough to save if I have to.

I just want a nice lil bump and want to be able to hear the lyrics cleanly. I dont need it to be ridiculously loud.

I'm assuming he sold you a subwoofer, since I don't know if they make 12" component speakers. but unfortunately you are not able to run these with the stock head unit. you need a pair of RCA output plugs, which are not on the stock HU. you could buy converters, but the quality drops, and seems sketchy to me, which is why I upgraded the head unit. head over to your local circuit city or stereo shop and see what they have on sale, some good stuff can be had for pretty cheap.

Hmm with those subwoofers it'll drown out the front speakers mostl likely.

Ditch the factory head unit. Its garbage. I ripped that out before anything. The volume **** that you turn forever to get a max volume? I have two 12 in subs installed on a sony head unit (garage sale items). Bought a clearance Jensen amp at wally world for like $70. Left the factory speakers. I think now its an excellent setup. The factory 4" speakers arent any good either, but if you have an amp running some subs, even small ones. The whole thing sounds %195 better. And no I am not one to wanna break my neighbors windows with my subs. They just add the needed bass to the factory speakers.

The stock system is CRAP. I didn't see this until i pulled the speakers a few days ago. The stock HU is nice. 160 watts, something like 16w x 4 RMS and 40w x 4 peak. The speakers however are nothing but low grade paper cones and plastic tweeters. The stock speakers however will handles 200w aftermarket HU's just fine, 22-25w RMS.

Upgrade the HU, then upgrade the speakers. There's a small bit of clairty after changing the HU, but after changing out the speakers as well, you'll notice and feel the difference. Its unbelieveable.

Since ur not familiar with the audio system, the factory consists of two 3.5" (3 1/2) mid-range tweeters in the dash. The door speakers are 6.75" (6 3/4). And the speakers out back are 5.25" (5 1/4). All cheap paper cones.

Also, if you upgrade the HU, make sure you don't buy a cheap HU. Most cheaps ones are 160W, so by getting one of those, you accomplish nothing being as that's what the stock one is.

Stock iPod upgrade HU is not bad.

I have one running a set of eDi 6000s/bridged nine.4. These puppies scream! The stock speakers are typical low end fare. Paper cones, mini magnets. Scion surely can't throw in some $100~$200 comps, right? The stock HU is good for probably 16~20 wrms. The max power available @12V is around 22.5 wrms. Then you need a switching power supply to increase the voltage to make more power. Simple physics.

I originally added the Scosche woofer and a 300w amp. It was not super strong by any stretch but still drowned out the front stage easily. I returned all of that nonsense and did it right.

Here's the low down from someone in the biz for a decade now and owns two Scion's. Lose the stock setup!!! I have recently tried a JL Audio Cleansweep in a tC. This unit works in conjuntion with the stock headunit. I will not get into specs on it rigth now. But, it's worth doing if you really "have" to use the stock HU. You will need a four channel amp to use a cleansweep. Anyway. New radio gets you better control of your overall system. HU in my xB didn't make it two days. Now it's somewhere in my garage along with the stock speakers. I have tried different combinations of speakers in different Scions now. Both cars(xB and tC) will and is, respectfully, use a bi-amped front stage. That is, no rear speakers. Equates to cleaner power and (gasp) better sound. BOth cars utilize an eight inch sub. One from JL and one from Polk Audio. Polk isn't installed yet. That's it. I would rather focus my sound up front. so really great speakers go there. That's a better way to direct your money on your sound system. Amps are 6 channel for the sake of consuming space in what little storage there is. Any questions?

^x2!!!!

Ditch the stock head unit for sure. The head unit is the source of your sound and you can make it sound as good or bad as you want. Splurge on the head unit and amps and you will see a better staged setup than you would with high dollar speakers and cruddy head unit.

Bi-amping is god. It will give you ultimate control over the entire front stage. The only speakers needed in the back are subs if you set the staging up the right way.

That's what http://www.pac-audio.com/ is for. Ridding the world of junky factory radios and keeping the controls on the steering wheel.

6.75" doors (depth dependant)
4" dash (depth and mount dependant)
5.25" rear (depth dependant)

Super Modded (much work to look good)
7" doors (door pods)
5" dash (fiberglassed dash)
8" rear quarter (glassed pods)

outside of that :search: would help.
