XM Reception is worse in the xB than the tC? Any pointers?

Hi everyone,

I went from an '05 tC to an '06 xB. I kept the same aftermarket headunit, XM receiver, and XM antenna and I've noticed far worse reception with the xB than I did with the tC. Does anyone have any success stories on where to put the antenna?

On the tC it was right behind the FM antenna on the back of the car. I used the factory install instructions to aid in my decision on where to put the antenna. I used the xB instructions to mount the antenna about 8" from the back of the car, on the roof on the passenger side.

I've noticed that even mild rain tends to kill my signal whereas in the tC nothing really phased it at all, unless I was driving right next to a large semi which caused the signal to be blocked.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I've always seen them a few inches from the windshield on the roof, in the middle

I would never put it in the front of the car, that seems like the easy way out, especially if the wire is run around the windshield. You know how our windshields like to be replaced.

Mine is in the center of the car, a couple inches in front of the hatch, similar location as neekap. I have never had an issue like you describe. Check your wiring connections and possibly the wire itself for a possible short.

1. Spell SIRIUS correctly.

2. XM has better quality. 128 bit vs 64 bit. No comparison.

3. We are not talking about programming. SIRIUS wins that one.

or one time payment? sirius, for a few more months atleast, but yea, the dealers here put the xm/sirius antennas either on the fenders, or in the middle of the roof, about 2" back from the windshield

the antennas go bad sometimes so it would say aquiring signal or no signal and go inand out alot. a new antenna goes for about 30 bucks. also i have my antenna in teh back on teh passerger side. i had it on the dash board at first but the reception is definitely better out side.

I don't think the antenna is bad, necessarily, as it works fine when it's not pouring down rain.

Ive had both Sirius and XM. Noticed small reception trouble with both of them. The Xm ant. was mtd up front, then I had my windshield replaced and the ant. wire got cut, took me a while to figure out what was wrong. ive since then mounted both Sirius and XM antennas towards the rear center of my xB, about 3 inches to the left or right of the high mount brake light. i only have minimal interference of signal.

I dont have either... can I have one of yours???
Sorry if this is a dumb question (I'm not so sure it is) but why do you have both? They dont overlap any stations at all? I'm curious cuz I want sattelite radio.

P.S. Sorry for thread jacking

I bought one the same day I won the other one at a raffle. i tend to lean more towards my Sirius, but the XM was won at a raffle and came with a 1yr subscription.

As was previously mentioned XM is superior in terms of sound quality. Neither is great but XM is better. I'll give Sirius the nod on programming. I have my antenna mounted like this: and it works great. Mark
