Originally they were made for race cars factory lines were wrapped in steel braids to stop line damage from debris from what I heard, then they noticed that the braids stopped the lines from swelling resulting in a more controlled brake pedal and more pressure to the brakes themself.

interesting. How difficult is it to install a set of SS lines?

Pretty simple the lines are a direct swap with the OE ones so basically get the car up on jackstands, pull the wheels, unbolt the old and put on the new. You only need basic tools and a buddy to help you with the bleeding / flush of the old fluid. If you don't have 4 jack stands you can do the rear then the front it just takes a little longer. Figure under an hour to swap all the lines and flush out the old fluid (which is good to do anyways!) If you are due for brakes it is a great time to get that done as well.
