Default Lower Strut bolts - are they eccentric or not?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a simple answer (couldn't find a straight answer using search!) regarding my question in the topic.

My xA will be delivered soon, and some TRD springs are on their way. I'm gonna use a spring compressor, and manually compress them since I don't have an air gun.

But before I pull the struts out, can someone tell me: are either of the bolts "eccentric"? If not, it makes it easy - just pull them. Otherwise, they should be marked so the drive to an alignment shop doesn't turn into a terror drive!

Oh, and another question: How tensioned/compressed are the springs when mounted in the strut? What I'm wondering is how much I need to wrench the spring compressors to relieve the tension before undoing the upper nut.

Thanks!

Al

The lower strut bolts are not eccentric. You don't need a spring compressor for disassembly or reassembly. Just point the strut away from you and take the top nut off and let her fly. Then have a friend compress the spring while you install the top nut when putting the new spring on. Make sure you loosen the top nut while the strut is still installed on the car.

I'm all about safety too, but I just personally did my xB and the amount of pressure stored in the front springs when you remove the top nut is very minimal. I have done other cars that absolutely required a spring compressor, but on the xb/xA you don't really need it. Not saying you can't use one if you want to be really careful...

I used a compressor on mine. It was kind of worth it, since I couldn't get the top strut bolt loose while it was on the car on one of the front assemblies. I just compressed the spring, got creative and it worked. So to get to the point, it was worth it in my situation.
