Default 18" == rough ride?

A guy at the dealer said that if I went to 18" I would rub, and the ride would be really "rough". What do you guys think of that ? Does it rub? I was thinking of the 215/35 R18... with the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S. Would that rub? Is it really a rough ride? What is the offset that everyone talks about? What is the best offset for this situation?

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=348 This should answer your questions on rubbing and offset.

No rubs. I even dropped it with 2" Spys.

I still don't get the whole offset thing and how that comes into play.

xbsciontist,

Was it a simple swap of tires? Nothing real tricky, huh? Where did you buy your stuff.

sammy, the dealership set me up with the rims. It was a dealer option except for the springs. Enkei wheels and very nice. I would recommend either that you talk to a dealership mechanic and ask for specs on what is best or get advice from tirerack.com
Hope this helps.

Thanks... I will check that all out.

Is anyone else confused by the word "offset" and what that means?

you will only have a rough ride if you go with 35 series tires. I have 18's with pirelli tires, and its pretty rough. not to mention, if you hit a pothole, your tire and rim will be trashed (learned that the hard way). just get some 45 series tires on 18's, and you will have a nice ride, and it will fill out your wheelwell really nice. I have a 2" drop, and still have a gap.
