Now that this thread is pretty much over, I'm depressed and bored to tears. Haven't seen anything exciting on the forums in ages. I'm thinkin on going back to stock. If I get a weekend free anytime soon, I may make another attempt at painting them. In the meantime I've been driving around on scratched up naked steelies. My spacer moons are sittin in the shed waiting to be sent back to mooneyes. No one in the forums is interested in badgering Lund about making a sun visor for the XB. Even if you don't want one, it's just a click away to help a brother out. Haven't even washed the rig in two weeks, maybe more. Oh well.........

don't feel bad. I'm on steelies too for almost 2 weeks now.

the good new is, the ride is so comfy compare to my 17's, and i don't need to worry on running potholes.

i painted the front passenger tire pretty poorly (it was the first one i did) and one of the spots is cracked from being too thin. and when i was doing it, my parents didn't let them dry inside, so they ended up getting kinda nasty and not very white. i'm gonna fix that over the coming week. the paint is sticking fine on the tires i painted well, and i'm sure i can get them to be white without much of a problem

and i have plenty of extra paint hehe

news flash-

whitewalls are off... hubcaps are off...

one hubcap popped, got all f-ed up on the curb and ensuing slide 20' down someones driveway. paint was all f-ing up, and i don't entirely know why.

fun while it lasted, but didn't last long.

so ends an era. until someone buys from cokertire.com

on a side note, i've since put trim rings on gloss black stockies, looks decent.

I had a feeling before that it wont last. I hope you can clean those up. if worst comes to worst, just have all 4 tires switch inside out. then you'll have 4 new walls.

...and so our noble experiment comes to a sad but drastic end...it was a great ride, 11 pages and several months worth of thread, but all fo nought. it seems as if the sidewall paint is not necessarily intended for daily drivers, and we will have to wear out the factory rubber before we can afford the coker wide whites...

Thanks all for the inspiration, it was great while it lasted.

i checked out the rays wheels site, and according to the site the prices are

"¥Prices of parts : Disk Cap 7,500 yen (‚†or 15/16 inches), Disk Cap 6,000 (‚†or 14 inch), TORX Wrench 500 yen, Package Bolt 100 yen, Valvestem 600 yen (‚†or 16 inch), Valvestem 300 yen (‚†or 14/15 inches), Rim Sticker 2,000 yen (a couple in one set)
¥Taxes are not included in the prices."

so if you are getting the 15s, it would be 7500 for the disk cap, 500 for the wrench, 500 for 5 bolts per wheel, 300 for the valve stem, and if you dont bother with the rim sticker it would be 8800 yen per wheel plus tax and shipping. but 8800 yen is only like 80 bucks or so...even with tax and shipping, its not that much per wheel for a pretty sweet look. i actually have a brother stationed in japan right now, i should have him get these for me and send em over. It gives the car a nice whitewall/moon cap look even though they are not whitewall tires.

Psst, Wayne: I still have the ten gallons of EDPM solvent-based deck waterproofing "rubber" coating still in the two cans. I want to keep the cans sealed until I roll out the 2nd floor mezzanine deck here in a -couple of months from now. But when I open and stir up the cans, I'll pour out two quarts into new quart cans. I'll make a trial paint of the temp spare and see how that looks (it will look snow white for sure!) and if the adhesion passes the duct tape pull test, then I'll consider it worthwhile to mail you a quart or two of the stuff.

regards,

blackwalls in miami

I got some porta-walls on ebay and had them mounted on a slightly wider tire, I think it looks nice and I have had no problems thus far.

Here it is...

Tire size is 195/60/15. I had the portawalls and the tires mounted professionally at the same time. I think the wider tire + the professional installation has contributed to my success. I got the portawalls on Ebay from "aircooledcustomcom" and the tires are Sumitomo Srixon 4 or something like that.
