BugBox!

Thank you for the info and yeah, this is so much better than eBay, price-wise, and it's good to know you had a good previous experience with them.

Thanks also for the quick how-to. I called a local Discount Tires store and they played dumb and said they could not do it, but I was always thinking it had to be something a person should be able to do without too much stress!

I can't wait and I think that site is located close to me...

Lucas AutoParts, in Long Beach, CA (800.952.4333) has port-o-walls for $29, new. They dont recommend the 3" on our stock 15" radials, due to the minimal bead-sealing surfaces. Buit they do have 1.5s and loads of sizes for other wheel sizes.

Suggested Diamondback Tires for new Wide Whitewall radials in many sizes.

Also suggested vinyl paint on sidewalls, said that he has seen it on some showcars, but Im not sure i want to try that just yet.

I'd paint the rims red and run the whites. Go RatRod!

the portawalls from Lucas turned out to be $35 + $8 for shipping. Still quite reasonable. The fella @ Lucas said that they are the only distributors in North America.

I'm sellin my salt flat discs for $50 + shippng if anyone is interested. They're in immaculate condition. PM if interested

Here's a question: if you drive or take turns too hard, or go fast is there a possibility that the port-o-walls can come off? Also, when installing yourself could the wheels go out of balance (...showing my ignorance here ha ha!)
I can't wait to see some pictures of you boxers with port-o-walls, I hope to do mine sometime soon, too!

Stick with the 1-2" kind. The big 3", while pimp, flap in the breeze.

You can put these on in about 20 minutes if you have a jack, and a good air source.

Jack up the tire you want to install on. I then pull the valve stem cores out of the tires (on the car mind you) to let the air out faster. You could sit there and let it out with a stick or something, but that would be slow. Then push the port o wall in around the rim. Make sure its even, put the valve stem core back in, air up the tire. Viola! Instant white walls.

I have some uber rare Red inserts. Now those are pimpin!

Is there any reliable way to pinstripe tires?

Nah, they won't make it out of balance if you center them on the rim.

Above is what I ran them on. Pretty much a box with wheels too!

They may 'flop' a bit, but I've never slung one off.

Hah! Geez...
It's funny because the tC that is inthe Scion Mag that was passed out at the L.A. Car Show this year had one of the cleanest tC's I've seen, it was super white and had very nice looking white walls...

Wow, I like those vw cargos. Pretty rare aren't they? Are you gonna do anything else or just have it flake apart all over the road? Can you even do anything with that much rust?

yes it was pretty rare, but I have sold it to someone in the U.K.

I liked the rat rod look, and the rust was cool. It was not very rusty at all, mostly surfact rust.

Well, it is currently in storage while I work on my '65 Malibu SS.

It is powered with a 1600 dual port, but I have a 2.0 liter Type 4 engine waiting to be converted to upright cooling ;)

But that's for later. After I finish the Malibu, I have a '49 Ford Woodie waiting to be restored, then I'll get back to the Oval.

Good Luck with the Manx, those are cool. Values have really went up on the originals!
