Default Question about OEM vs. 15x7 +40 Aftermarket

Hello. Hopefully someone can help me. I have searched the forum and looked at the wheel fitment sticky, but my question still remains.

First, what is the true stock wheel width for a 2006 xB? Is it 6" wide or 6.5" wide? Next, can I expect the wheels to stick out further toward the outside of the vehicle if I go to a 15 x 7 wheel with the stock 185/60R15 tires and a +40 mm offset. Does anyone have any experience with this? Last, should I have any problems with a Tein S Tech drop which is about 1.7"?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Stock is 15x5.5. Going to 15x7 plus the difference in offset it will stick out 0.71 inches more. Different wheels have different lips so the actual amount could easily vary by another 0.25.

Stock on an XB is 15x6. It's stamped right on them, go take a look.

What do you want, someone to tell you they're 17x 7? Go look at what it says on the wheel.

You're question has too many variables except about the stock steelies being 15X6. Yes, the wheel will stick out more with the 40mm spacers. That 40mm spacer could end up being less depending on the offset of the new 15X7 wheels. If the wheels are 40mm offset your net gain toward the outter lip should be around 55mm. (40mm spacer + 2mm offset difference from steel wheel + 13mm difference from 1 inch wider wheel) Now my head hurts

SkyonXa - Sorry I didn't mention it in my post, but I did look on the wheel. I couldn't find it. I even crawled under the car to look at the inside of the wheel, and I still didn't see it.

Jethro_b - Thanks for the info. It will not have 40 mm spacers just 40 mm offset. But with your calculations it looks like the wheels will push out about 13-15 mm. Thanks.

offset calculator to the rescue....

jethro was close.... since the stock offset is lower(38) then the new one(40), he should of minused the 2 instead of adding...

cyergey, the stocks are 15X6 +38

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

if you enter '6' then '38', then enter any other wheel specs, which in this case is '7' then '40', you get the change of inner clearance and outer clearance(position).

you are welcome.......

Stock is 15x6 and +38mm offset. Offset is measured form the centerline of the wheel measured from outside lip to inside lip.

Let's assume your new 15x7 wheels have +38mm offset. When mounted they will be 1/2 inch closer to the suspension and 1/2 inch closer to the wheel openings. Since your new wheels have a +40 offset, the wheels will tuck in an extra 2mm.

So the answer to your question is yes, they will stick out towards the outside of the car by 10.7mm, or just less than 1/2 inch.

I do not think you will have problems with the s-techs.
