Default Tire size and brand opinion.

Here is a pic of my current wheels and tires. they are in storage for winter and with flat
If I remember right they are like 195/40 r17 Wahli tires. I got them with a wheel and tire package and the tires just suck. Super crazy road noise and ride pretty bad. Anyways, I would like a tire that has less road noise. I have heard the Nitto NeoGens ride very well and don't have alot of road noise. Also, would a larger tire fill out the wheelgaps. Nitto NeoGen has a 215/45 xr17 size available. Would that be good size?Thx for any help.

im also looking for tires for my 17s this spring. I asked for help and people said that the 215/45/17 tires will help fill the wheel gap better. Is your box dropped?

yea, its dropped a bit. It has the S-techs on it. Here is the before and after thread for the springs. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...517&highlight=

Those Wahli tires are the noisiest tires ever! I have never had a problem with dry weather grip (and shouldn't with a 1.3 LOL) but they do get slippry in the rain. Thanks again for anybodys help in advance.

since u are already dropped, then u dont have to worry about a gap. i have nexen 215/45/17s and they arent noisy. but that all depends on an individual's opinion what is noisy.

First off, 195/40 and 205/40/17s are too small for an xB. The correct size for the xB is 215/40/17. 215/45/17 will work as long as you are not lowered and using rear spacers together.
Wahli and Nankang NS1s are some of the cheesiest/noisiest tires on the market. That is why they are so inexpensive. Please avoid them in the future unless you like punishment.
Nice BCP xB except for the black wheels. Not a fan of those. They are way played out.

215/40/17 is fine. The 215/45/17 sometimes causes rubbing issues when rear spacers are used. The 215/45 is actually 1/2 inch taller and throws of the speedo some too.

The recommended size for the box is 205/45R17. That is the true size, but a 215/45R17(+1.5%) is closer to the stock diameter than a 215/40R17(-2.0%). Both sizes will mess with your odometer reading and speedometer reading. The size I would go with is 215/45 which is the closest to stock if what you want is a wider contact patch.

Leo, your numbers are wrong. According to my size calculator here are the numbers.
Here is the link to the calculator for those that want to use it.
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp?postId=906

185/60/15 is 23.7" tall - Stock size
205/45/17s are 24.3" tall +2.2%
215/40/17s are 23.8" tall +.02%
215/45/17s are 24.6" tall +3.8%
Basically 215/40/17s ARE the closest and best fitting replacement size 17" tire .

I agree with you totally, but that is the size that is recommended in 17's. I do not agree with it, but I am just saying what is recommended. Check Tirerack and you'll see they recommend it to and they are always on point with their fitments.

Plus, How many tires are available in 205/45/17? I've seen very few plus the prices are usually higher cause they don't sell many.

One time I tried to buy some Kuhmo 711s in 205/40/17 and Tire Rack wouldn't sell them to me for the xB. Reason given was that they were not weight rated high enough. I ended up getting the 215/45/17s and they ended up rubbing when I had my OTG spacers on and had to remove them to use the tires. From now on, my net set of 17's will be 215/40 to avoid any issues.

That's cool. Being shorter than the stock tires actually gives slightly better acceleration too. Just watch out for those potholes Bro.
