Default Calling all you electrical wizards, need some help!

Got the Wally world fog lights for the XB.

I would LIKE for the fogs to turn on with the headlights not just hard wired up to the battery. I tried to tap into the headlights and toasted the fuse about 20 mins later.

So then I tapped into the parking lights and then it just sucked the power from the parking lights so they became dim.

I got to wire these up to something that is controlled by the light switch on the column cos I'm afraid she'd leave them on and kill the battery.

Any suggestions would be uber appreciated as I'm loosing my mind here!

I would suggest powering a relay from the headlamp circuit that controls battery voltage to the fog lamps. That way when you turn on the headlamps the relay will energize (doesn't take much power for this). connecting the foglamps to battery power.

Ok, not trying to sound dumb but where would I find the hot lead from the headlamps?

The fuse block on the driver's side fenderwell is in there pretty good and I already tried to unwedge it and that was a no go.

You said you hooked up the fogs and 20 mins later the fuse popped. I assume the fogs were working. You could connect the activation circuit of the relay at the same spot...it uses very low power and should not over load the circuit. You would the the power for the fogs (the power switched by the relay) from a direct fuse box or battery spot. I would hook the positive power from the battery to the switched contacts of the relay, be sure to put an inline fuse on this wire near the battery. When you turn on the headlamps the relay should energize switching the battery power thru to the foglamps.

^agreed. but dosent the factory harness for the stock fogs come on with the headlights? Keep it simple. Just tap that, Its what i used to power my halos and its already fused. There is one fog harness on each side of the engine bay. I might try running each light to the harness on their side of the car.

Here's a link for the wire colors
