YOu should definately read up your Local auto lighting laws. I found In colorado Street rods can have Purple Brake lights!
I changed my Opera color scheme as the ticket for impersonating a park ranger is less of a crime than impersonating an officer.

Objection!, being Argumentative, Sustained.
I was under the impression you could partially tint your windshield, wheres Denverites cannot. I may be mistaken. Whatever this has to do with anything Idk.

In CA I know it is illegal.

I'm just assuming it is illegal in a few other states as well.

Front sidemarkers are legal in amber , but they can only blink with the blinkers they cannot be like a running light. as to why? ya got me.

front signals can be white or amber , rear signals can be red or amber.

so there ya guys go
Thanks D

My concern when doing this mod and why i haven't done it yet is because those bulbs are probably not meant to be on all the time because they would generate too much heat and burn out prematurely aside from the fact that they are on ALL THE TIME. Hence the reason toyota wired them not to be constantly running. maybe for legal reasons maybe for energy conservation....who knows...who cares...we want to be cool right? I'm going to try this with 194 LED bulbs and 20ohm 25watt resistors. That way i will have peace of mind that they won't overheat or burn out...and every light on my car aside from the headlights and front turns will be LED. As complete a conversion as possible. Of course this will be after i do snowromance's Anzo LED tail brake/turn conversion with the trailer converter and add 4 luxeon bulbs all for reverse lights.

Have fun with that, I have Red LED's in my sidemarkers with no resistors, and I have yet to blow out anything. Its not alot of power going to that little 194 bulb, thats why it is ok to leave it on. And the only time it would be on is at night, unless your turn your lights on your car during the day like I do. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I really like this mod.

I have red 194s and they look pink, which is actually kinda cool haha.

I want to paint my side markers red like I did for my tail lights though.

I am glad you like this mod. Post up pics of the painted side markers when you do them.

This may seem like a dumb question, but where did you get the extra wire you are using?
What gauge is it?

Its cool. I just had the wire, but you can go down to your local auto zone and pick up some wire. In my opinion it dosent matter how thick the wire is, but to be safe I would go with a 18 gauge.

I know this is an old thread, but when I did this, my rear markers and license plate lights would blink with my turn signals, what did I do wrong?

Default ...Crossed wires....?

When you did the wiring, did you see the wire colors that you were expecting? My 05 XB had differant color wires from what I had expected after reading the DIY. My initial connection was wrong and no lights worked. I suggest that you re-do the wiring, cross the wires for one side-marker at a time.
