Default HELP!!! Wife wacks curb - front lip repair/replace?

Well supposedly she was trying to be so careful. Parked far awy from other cars. Then pullling out managed to wack a curb and scratch the crap out of my front lip. Felt bad for her - she was shaking and pretrified to tell me. It's only a car!!

But - what to do? It's scraped pretty good. Can it be repaired? Or do I start looking for a new lip? She's feeling guilty enough that I could probably spring for something I wasn't planning to. Let me know what you think....especially if you have a front BSP lip for sale!!

Here's a pic:

Not too bad. It can be fixed, just a scratch right? Just have it repainted. Could be kind of expensive though.

Hate to see that man.

Since I got my xB, I've told myself that if I get curb bruises on the lower panels, I'll just have them painted with spray in bedliner. Now, whether or not I could really let myself do that, I dunno. But it's a thought, and this is Mississippi. I've seen entire trucks painted with bedliner.

The location is so low and out of the way, and the color is so dark that repair need not be too critical. The event could probably be made unnoticeable with a tube or two of touch up paint from this place:

have you tried buffing it out? It looks white in that pic on the surface and not black which is the color of the actually lip underneath the paint. I would try buffing it before you do more extreme measures

If it's not down to the plastic, I'd water sand that area with 1500 grit sandpaper first. Then use rubbing compound to really smooth it out and wax it.

The area is really rough/scraped. Not like it's paint from another vehicle. Anyway - took your advice and got some 1500 grit and the rubbing compund. Helped a little but there are some prety deep grooves. Here's a pic after wetsanding and compunding:

i had same scratch on same spot on my bumper just like yours.
what i did was just touch up.
since the part where the scratch is not that visible spot, you will not notice a lot that u touched up.
specially for BSP, you will be just fne with touch up paint.

My number one suggestion to anyone that needs paint is to go back to the dealership, any dealership for that matter, and find out when their touch up guy/gal is expected. They go from lot to lot touching up all the dings from test drives and factory flaws. They do excellent work and usually don't charge a fortune like a regular body shop would.

I wouldn't call what they do "excellent." They more or less do spot jobs in broad daylight, with barely any prep time. The finished product is usally so poor, I would rather have the grooves from the curb in my bumper rather than have it spotted.

Go to a body shop, and get it fixed. It'll cost you between 500 and 700.

Every place is different. The people I've had experience with did excellent work.

I have to stop by dealer tomorrow to pick up an ebay item and will ask about their touch up work. They had offered me a package for $1,000 that would have done undercoating, maybe another clear coat and then minor dent & chip work. Maybe I should have purchased it.......

Guy that has doen more work for me than I care to remember says $150 to sand & paint. Also snapped 3 clips under there. At that rate I may just go for a new lip. No sanding and he'll have enough paint anyway......
