you said "power is split between the two bulbs, hook them both together" so where should I hook them together? which color should be hooked to which color? also which ground get connect to the black/white wire, and which connect to the black/yellow wire, it will be good if you can upload some picture of your connection.
Thank you

ok here are some pics
both + wires from low beam and high beam hook them together

connect your test light to the negative side of the battery and probe the black wire w/red stripe, you light should come on, this is the power wire

next is the grounds, place the clamp on your test light to the + side of the battery and probe the black w/white strip, and turn the headlights on low beam your testlight should be on, connect you ground from you low beam bulb to this wire

now its time to check the high beams using the same method as the low beam, probe the black w/yellow strip wire and put your high beams on, the test light should be on, just connect the high beam ground to this wire and everything should work just fine
now, [/img]http://a511.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/57/l_b6349fc0698f03f1cc584bb5b699d3be.jpg[img]
this headlight system has constant 12v power and is ground through the heallight switch, hope this helps and you can always go back to the diagram on the first page. [/img]
