OEM Spoiler mounting... 3M tape or bolts?
#21
^^^ I think you have made your point perfectly clear Mr. Easy on Easy off. We get it ... you are 110% for drilling into virgin sheet metal and all that.
There are those out there who are not interested in drilling if they do not have to. The OEM wings are a dime a dozen now. They are so readily available that Scion here on the East Coast has been given them away.
You've made your point Mr. Engineer, and believe it or not, there are those out there who may want to do things differently then what you may suggest.

Mr. Tape Specialist, you have made your point perfectly clear.
We get it, you are 110% into sticking your Spoiler or spoilers at Shows for people with tape.
It is Your Choice. No one has ever said that you cannot use tape.
Personally, I don't care if you use bubble gum or Velco
Yes, I am an Engineer, not as smart as you Tape Specialists.
And it doesn't take an Engineer just a street smart thief to work a piece of fishing line
from the edge of one corner of the spoiler to the other and off it comes in 2 minutes flat.
And you can quit flogging this thread with tape now.
The OP has decided on the smart proper choice:
Don't make it Easy for the Thief.
Protect your car.

I just don't want it flying off on the highway. And I think the 3m would be sufficient, but I think I'll go the bolt route so I can try using washers to rake it ducktail-style (someone else on SL did this and looks dope as hell...)
Anyway thanks for the comments.

I just mounted a factory rear spoiler to my 06 xB. I found this thread interesting, being that I also also didn't want to drill holes and compromise the metal work. I live in coastal NC, and that means rust. I used small patches of 3M tape to
locate and hold in place, but also placed blobs of 3m Polyurathane 5200 marine adhesive after cleaning mating surfaces well with alcohol and drying. 5200 is a SUPER adhesive. The spoiler will break apart before the 5200 lets go.

Pros and cons?
Tape: Pros: Fast, Easy, No drilling.
Cons: Easily stolen, could fly off on the freeway.
Bolts: Pros: Not easily removed (by thief, wind, or G-Forces), You get to
use power tools, and it takes longer than 5 minutes, so figure you
get to down at least a sixer.
Cons: Can't really think of any, if you F*ck up drilling, you can always just
tape it on, the spoiler will cover it up!
I've done three of them now, with the bolts, and as long as you measure twice, and drill once, your good. also, helps to have another set of hands to help hold it when test fitting.

Update: Sometime in mid-2010 mine started coming loose. I re-did it and it lasted a week before falling off, in the parking lot at work. Maybe the 130° temp had something to do with it.
I decided that the car looked OK without, so into the trash it went. Amazing that a 5' fall onto asphalt standing still can cause that much damage.
