Default Potential Ease of Theft...

Another Thing to Consider for 3M tape fans...
(Original thread concern whether to use 3M tape or Bolting on the OEM 1stGEN xB Spoiler.
Started this thread because this Warning can be Applicable to other vehicles and accessories i.e. lip kits)

Potential Ease of Theft

Easy On, Easy Off.
It's only stuck on with tape. Sure it may hold the Spoiler.
What's to stop a Thief from removing it Just as Easy?
A Thief can remove it in less than 2 minutes by the
Same Way you Debadged and Removed your Emblems.
Takes a bit longer, Same Method which I don't need to describe here.

The MSRP for a OEM Spoiler is $285 and about $100 for a Dealer to
Install and Bolt it on. Or you can Install it yourself with the Dealer Kit.

A Thief can have it off in No Time and can be Sold to an Unsuspecting Customer
at a low price with no questions asked before you know it.
Or IF he mounts it for himself, do you think he's just going to stick it on with tape?
No, he is going to Drill and Bolt it on himself.

THINK about that IF you are unlucky leave it in a big Parking Garage, Shopping Mall,
Ball Game, Overnight in your Driveway and come back and all you find left is Tape Residue.
Easy On, Easy Off.

Sorry to be melodramatic, but thinking of all the hardworking Scion Owners out there.

Thing is, no one is going to know how its mounted except for you.

Its a non-issue.

Sorry to hear about that, Claudia.
Damn thieves will try and steal anything these days,
even if it's bolted down.
Sometimes I wish they have Hasic Law in this country.
Cutting off the hand of thieves as punishment.

If you go back to the thread:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=212530

A Poster who Installed several Spoilers with the tape said:
"It wasnt until then he noticed it was slightly off to the passenger side, and he couldnt get it back off to reset it."

Okay, his customer can't get it off by just pulling on it.
But, I Repeat IF it is taped on, it still can be Removed in under 2 minutes using the Proper Method.

No one is saying that you are Not Allowed to use tape.
I am a Engineer by profession. I'm not saying it's theft proof,
but, Drilling and Bolting it on is the Superior Method, IMHO.

I have on numerous occasions in a large multi-story Parking Garage, a Big Ball Game parking lot,
School Campus lot and other places where I have seen several xBs w/OEM Spoilers parked alone.
(not uncommon in Cali)

There is Easy Way for a Thief to Test for the tape method. And at nearly $300
a pop, IF we were in the Same Parking area and he tested mine and see how
securely it is Bolted on, he will move on to yours.

If it is a non-issue with you, then you have nothing to worry about.
It is also a non-issue for the Thief.
Easy On, Easy Off.

So if that HAD been bolted down, it would've probably broke the spoiler and/or trashed the hatch. You're still hosed, maybe even worse. The tape may be a better option.

Sometimes??? I with they had that type of punishment over here ALL THE TIME. Who the hell came up with the idea that it's okay to steal what someone has worked hard to obtain...

For every item stolen, off with a damn finger. Mom and paps didn't teach these high school dropout, can't find a job, "whatchu talkin bout willis" a$$ people anything, so we should let the hatchet do the teaching.

Sorry for the anger, but when you've had $20k worth of hard earned valuables stolen from your house, you'd be ____ed too.

Yeah, Right.

Maybe, you can find that 'Mr Nice Guy' Considerate Thief who will be gentle when he Rips Off your taped on Spoiler.
Maybe, he will take the time and use Goo Gone and clean up the tape residue and waxed the area for you, too....lol...
Don't Count on it.

precisely. mine was stuck on hatch with only double sided tape
and they still used a crow bar and dented the hatch and above the tail lights area
as well as damaging the paint

x2

I ALWAYS have at least 3 Alarms/Anti-Theft Devices for every vehicle I have ever Own.
It goes all the way back to when I was the original Owner of a
1968 SS Camaro w/427 blueprinted 500hp+ Corvette engine.
Actually on that ride, I had 5 Anti-Theft Devices on it which I won't discuss,
other than one of the Motion detectors was so sensitive
that if you were to touch it with a paper airplane it would go off!
My car was rumour to be on a 'wanted poster' many failed attempts, they never got it.
NEVER MAKE IT EASY FOR A THIEF.
PROTECT YOUR CAR AT ALL TIMES.
