Default Rear bumper protector alternative?

I'm still not quite sold on the OEM rear bumper applique, and I was thinking of something I could DIY. Being a skateboarder, I was entertaining the thought of getting some griptape and cutting it to size for that area.

Clear

Element

Camo!

I think I would need to trace the shape of somebodies factory piece to make it look good....but has anybody else done anything like this???

The OE bumper protector is essentially griptape, so I'd go for it. I like the camo.

Moved to DC.

Yeah...it's growing on me. I think I'll order a few and see what they look like on the car. I just need to fine a way to trace the oem piece so I get nice clean lines.

Anybody with one want to trace the shape on a piece of paper and send it to me?

the only think i would be scared of with the grip tape is just don't set anythign on it, could tear it up, however, would prevent kids from trying to sit on your bumper ;-) honestly, i'd say go with the element, or if you can find urban camo...cancel that, you ahve a camo tc, stick with gray shades and green...but personally, element

Even better, maybe someone can just send you the paper that it is stuck to before peeling and applying. I imagine it is much easier to do that than to trace the damn thing.

Hey, maybe someone could send me one too!?!?

the bumper applique will shrink and leave a nasty looking outline after about a year and it its not the same as grip tape, it does not have the sandpaper grit in it it is simply gritless griptape but you could always do like me..... I really didn't want to spend that much on it. This is definitely a case of function over form.

Now I know why my ears were burning...hehehe, plus this is definitely a Deja Vu thread.

www.motorfx.com sells the CF version of the bB chrome guard, but it's not functional, IMO, it's more dress. I'm almost more worried about it getting damaged as I am the bumper it is protecting. Does anyone make a bumper protector protector? And I just can't see paying to have it clear-bra'd.

The applique is real close to griptape but not gritty, as mentioned. I think a DIY one would be perfect. That way if it does get messed up, you can just re-do it. I would recommend something low-grit as possible so it doesn't snag washmitt fuzz, etc.

Here's the deal of the day - PM me with your addy and I will send you the OEM applique I removed to put my CF cover on. I was so close to getting it removed intact and then it ripped right about a foot or so from the end. It only tore part way thru, like thru 2 of the 3 rows of circles, so you can easily match it up to get the actual form outline.

If I was making my own, I'd make it cover more than the OEM, but that's just me...

Default bumper cover

I just went to Carbufz, a local shop and had clear vinyl put on my rear bumper. They didn't have a yellow that matched. It covers well, blends nicely and cost $20. They also had CF vinyl. May get a piece and cut out letters and scion emblem for my engine cover.
