2nd Annual Box the Dragon 2011
Attention all Scion xB owners:
I am happy to announce the second annual “Box the Dragon” being held summer of 2011 and once again based out of Fontana Village Resort, Fontana, North Carolina. Last year’s event was a success and hopefully this year will have an even bigger turn out.
The purpose of this post is to gauge any interest in participating in this year’s event. A few changes this year we are considering are:
-Opening the event to all xB’s (first and second generation)
-Having an official registration list with a small prepaid registration fee for attending that will include a shirt, goodies, and a possible meal. Our itinerary will be posted later.
-Getting a group discount from the Fontana Lodge to accommodate everyone who participates.
-Not only cruising the Dragon but possibly other scenic routes like the Cherohala Skyway
This year we have not set a date but are looking at one similar to last year’s, most likely August 5-7 weekend.
Any suggestions or questions would be greatly appreciated. We’d be glad to hear if you have any interest in attending. We’re hoping on another successful year for Box the Dragon!
Information on Fontana Village and the Tail of the Dragon can be found below:

The resort is located in beautiful, scenic Appalachian wilderness. “The Dragon”, or Tail of the Dragon, is the nickname for US 129, a curving, winding road along the mountainside. It consists of 318 curves in 11 miles and is a true feat and thrill to drive. Information on The Dragon can be found here:

Also, any questions about the event can be emailed to :

The event is also not in conjunction with the Fontana Village Resort

I will be there again. Just let me know when. Will have to decide which box to bring. Would be cool if we could have one or more of each Release Series. If I can get my son to drive the other Box, I will have a RS 2.0 and a RS 7.0 there.
Are we going to have T Shirts again? I will talk to my local Scion Manager and see if he can get a few freebies to give away. Can't wait.

Redneck, it's too bad you can't go the weekend we're looking at
Jim, great to here you'll be back! It'd be great seeing both boxes there, we'll surely have both of ours again. Definitely going to have shirts again, those were really neat last year. Freebies are always a plus! Keep us posted.
Also, if anyone has any preferences on shirt color this year just leave a post.
An official registration list for this year will be coming soon.

I will let the other locals know so they can decide if they want to go. 1 guy has a 2008 RS 5 (Gold) XB and the other has a 2006 Camo Green. There are some more, but I have never met them. Am letting the local Scion Managers know also. You did a good job with design of the shirts last year, so I will leave that to you. I guess you will have both Generations of boxes on this one. Should be fun.
That'd be great if you could tell others, I really appreciate your help on this. Today we called in and reserved a block of rooms at the lodge with a discounted rate for anyone that decides to come this year. I'm going to leave an official post soon with all the details
My son doesn't seem interested,
so it may just be me and the RS2.
Last year there were a few that didn't
Like that it was for 1st Gen only. Doesn't
Matter to me. I think it will be a fun
time no matter which Generation shows.

Yes, there is a meet called box the dragon. it for xB's only. lol. personally, i dont see a problem w/ gen2 owners coming. some may not like the newer boxes but they r still xB's. to me, that would be like saying only 04's can participate cause the rest r just following those of us that bought the original xB. would be a mighty small meet w/ only two of us showing up.
Went in for an oil change yesterday at Capital Toyota, Chattanooga, Tn. Found Patrick (local Scion Manager) and I told him about the Event. He has a meeting with Scion in April. He said he would try to get some giveaway stuff. Because the Dragon crosses borders, he was thinking maybe having something for us on the Tenn. side. This is still fluid at the moment. Will have more solid information later. Just hope Scion can give up some goodies for us.
That's too bad your son isn't interested Jim. But you're right, it'll still be a great time, and I think opening it up to gen2 is the right choice. And again, thanks for your effort in finding us goodies, we're working on more as well
That sounds great, we'd love to have him! As for the rooms, they're pretty nice. Clean, comfortable, no problems whatsoever. I'd say they're the way to go if anyone is planning on coming to this, especially with the group discount.
Here is a link (I hope it works) to the official registration. It's in the Scion xB - 1st gen owner's lounge so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Local dealer would like to see some photos from last year. So I am going to send a few from then. Already gave him a shirt. May help when he meets with Scion Rep. this month. Maybe help get us some goodies. Any color shirt will be fine with me. Remember, I want 4. Local car show starts this month, so hopefully I can run into more XB owners then. May see about making up sign advertising the event and put in front of my car.
Wow that signs great with the whole Scion Rep. and advertising at the car show. Once again we appreciate all the work you are putting into this to help out. Let us know if you have any success with getting some goodies or convincing anyone else to come down with us.
