Default After a Squishy.. What's the Depreciation?

Sadly, I was at a red light when got re-ended by an Expedition. Not only that, but got
shoved into a Suburban in front of me.
The majority of damage was on the front. Wont' get car back until 6/19 approx.

My quiz..

My 2004 Xb ,Onyx Blue, Auto

Besides the pits in the hood and a few minor scratches..

How much depreciation did this cause? I'm wanting to hit up their insurance for
the loss of value.

EDIT..
The rear has a nice indention at the bottom of the hatch where it meets the body.
The front took the brunt of it all as the truck bumper was higher than mine. It pushed the front structure in, the quarter panels were flaired out and the front doors would not open due to that.
radiator/condensor to be replaced.
The light supports/body frame is to be cut out and replaced. It's a uni-body so they have to basicly cut n paste it back to gether from what I understand. sad.. i'm freekin sad..

I'm not keen on purchasing a new vehicle either.
My quiz though is more of 'What did I lose?"

yeah they will fix my car, but it no longer holds the monetary value it once had.

It's close to 5k for the repair. 2004's are aroun 10,900 or so. Now that my car has been damaged, how much is it no longer worth? What did I lose..

as long as it was returned to the "pre-accident" state, it shouldn't affect the resale..and you got a new paint job to boot

I agree that if a vehicle has been returned to a 'pre-accident' state, but, consumers, car dealerships don't.
Many states also track vin # for car histories. If a car has been in an accident, it does not have the same value.

Most rebuilt cars are only worth 50-60% of the current price. If your car should have sold for $10K before the wreck, most consumers and banks would only give you $5-6K.

Make sure you question your ins. company about the depreciation, sometimes you can get a check for that as well as the damage

does this hold true for simple things like, replacement of fenders and bu,pers, or only if the body/engine are damaged?

As long as it didn't get flaged and the repairs are done right and with Toyota parts ONLY it should affect it nearly none. It it goes on the vehicles record, maybe up to 50% of it's pre accident value.

Check with your insurance and the other persons insurance regarding diminished value. Some insurance companies will pay you this but most will not.

As for diminished value it is pretty impossible to determine that. It would depend on when you are selling it. If you sell your car as soon as it is fixed then the depreciative value would be considerably more than if you sold it 5 years from now. Of course diminished value tends to be more of a way for the dealer to screw you out of money rather than a real value. If a car is fixed by a good shop using good parts then the value in reality should equal that of a comparable car that was not in an accident.
