Default Air conditioning kind of weak 2006 xB Auto

My b has a hard time cooling off in extrme hot weather. I had a Camry previously that just had incredible AC that blew cold air so cold that you couldn't run max AC very often. I find I am on MAX AC quite often.

Anybody else have Warm AC?

Most gen 1 xBs suffer this problem. There is a TSB at the dealership. You can take your car in and ask to have it fixed. I've never done it, but some say it they can fix it, others have said that it didn't help. It's worth a try if you run your A/C a lot.

Must be a Scion only problem cuz my Toyota Matrix could freeze your azz off!

I'd love to see that TSB. Most of the links that get provided for a look are dead and I can't read the solution.

If you notice in the maintenance manual, the "recharge the a/c" is the most unsually common service that is recommended. Hmmm,......

What is the actual name of that manual?
In the Scheduled Maintenance Guide that came with my car, the air conditioning is not listed as a scheduled maintenance item. I also have it in PDF form, and the words "recharge" or "a/c" or "air conditioning" do not appear in a search.

My 2006 a/c does not seem very strong, but I don't expect much what with the little engine, the big black dash and the large interior volume.
What really disappoints me is the airflow from the vents with no fan. Even at 60 mph there is very little air, so any time the sun is out at Interstate speed, the air conditioning must be used.
The vent system in my 1991 Mazda truck will blow your hair dry at 40 mph with no fan, and the air conditioning does not have to be used on the Interstates until the weather is hot.

I don't run my a/c too often, but I did find leaving it on max a/c helps keep it pretty cool...

Mine works pretty well. No problem on my auto. It helps if you open up the vents while you're on the freeway.

when i got my xb the ac was pretty weak at first, but now it's just fine. sometime i do wish it was a little bit more like a honda's ac.

I haven't had to run my AC yet this year, I hold out as long as possible. I did use mine last summer and found it to be plenty adequate though.

I thought the TSB was for the 04s and in a certain VIN range. Thats what I was told. If you think the 06 ac sux ride in an old 04 it sux REAL bad, the 05-06 is ICE cold and quick compared to my 04.

I got an oil change this past weekend and asked the service guy about it and he said they could do a service on it for $180 bucks.

Hi Guys,

I am in the A/C business. Never have your A/C "serviced" unless it breaks. It is just like your home refrigerator. A sealed system that shouldn't be messed with. The xB system is weak but that is it's design. Any stronger and it would impact MPG. Hose out the radiator area to keep bugs from slowing air flow and keep the interior filter clean if you have one..tint your windows..thats about it.

YES--the TSB was on the 04's only. Make sure you have the circulation lever set to recycle the air and not to add fresh air.........

since we're on a/c. mine isn't very cold either but what evers. what i want to know is does any of your boxes do this. my problem isn't because of the a/c being weak, but that the vents doesn't work properly. when i put it on all foot. it's still blows out of the the top vents. and when i put it on the defogger setting with foot. it still blows out of the top vents. is there something wrong with my vent controls? i know the controls are cra*py and works by gears and levers. or as you can say it, mannually.

I have noticed mine does that to. If I don't want it to blow out the top vents I put it on the feet setting and close the... I don't know the technical term but the "recirculator" the sliding control that recirculates the air or lets fresh air in. Then it doesn't blow through the top vents.
