Oh yeah...in the meantime, I'd reccommend running the fresh air till it cools, and then use recirc AND switch the vents to floor and upper vents. That seems to get the air a lot colder.

Max is right, no matter what, the compressor kicks in and consumes his ~3HP from your engine. What you do with the fan is a different story. The higher the fanspeed the lesser cold air can be picked from the coil because the air is "rushing" faster trough the coil. The lower the fanspeed setting the colder the air will feel that comes out of the vents because the air that runs trough the coil can be better "saturated or cooled down" before it comes out of the vents.
If you don't mix outside air into the stream the colder the air will be too. Therefore, run the ac first without outside air and at the same time open a front/backwindow full so the first "heatwave" can escape fast trough the windows.
If you stick a thermometer into one of the vents the reading should be around 44 and you would know your AC is working correct.
