Automatic Transmission & Shifting the xB
I read something interesting in the manual...
The xB's with automatics can use the "overdrive button"
to downshift the car on steep inclines for engine braking.
What do you make of this?
:?:
What about shifting the automatic (upshifts & downshifts) within the proper RPM range like a manual?
Will this damage to the transmission?

You can in fact use the OD Button on the side of the shifter to engage/disengage the OD. This is useful to reduce lugging on steep climbs, and to engine brake going downhill.
You can manually shift the Trans, but it usually is not very smooth, and more trouble than it is worth.

I wouldn't think so...I regularly drive my box over an area known around here in SoCal as the Grapevine and it's a 4,000 ft. climb and descend and stretches for about 18 miles...My box shifts just fine and really smooth from the regular drive to the overdirve when I press the button to climb and then when I use it to slow down going down the hill...So I agree engine braking in the automatic is possible without putting too much stress on the transmission...
I'd say use it confidently as I do...It's never given me a problem yet, and my transmission responds just fine for me everyday :D
Hope this can help you out and ease your mind a bit :D
