Default Breaking in the xB

OK so I finally RFTM.

It talks about not going a consistent speed for a long period of time for the first 1000 miles.

I have 320 miles on it, but have to drive about 4 1/2 hours home in a week. If I don't use cruise control, will that be enough variation?

How important is the "break in" period for future fuel economy and performance?

Thanks.
