Default Buying a new car....advice....

Hey everyone, my girlfriend and I currently have an 06' BOP xB, and we love it. Our 2nd car was recently stolen, then totaled, so we need a new car. We are thinking of going Pre-owned or used. We are thinking of getting a tC or another xB. We want a very low payment. My girlfriend drives a lot and she is going to be using the second car the majority of the time, so we don't know if we should go pre-owned or used? Any opinions?

Thats honestly not an easy question to ask as your financing will have everything to do with if you can into the car for the price your looking at. Go to a dealership (where you both the 06) and see what numbers can be worked up.

Scion.com also shows some finance info on there website using Toyota Finance.

I would definatly check out new xb's and tc's. The deels on used ones might not be all the good.

XB's have such a high resale value that a used one with used car financing (typically a higher rate vs. new) isn't that good a deal.

get a new one. used xB's are selling for almost as much as new ones, you get less value and you miss out on the new car experience.

True, didn't notice that at first. Pre-owned is just a "nice" way of saying used.

BTW go new. The interst rates on used negate any savings you might gain in the transaction. IMO

If you want low payment, hopefully you got a settlement check from your insurance company. If you put all of that into a down payment, plus a couple thousand cash, you might be able to get a decent rate. The dealer gave me the best rate actually, after I told him I was going to shop a rate from my bank. It turned out my insurance agent also offered pretty good financing when I added it to my coverage.

I think by pre-owned he means certified used. They're good, if you can get a warranty.

Janitors drive used cars

Industrial Engineers drive pre-owned vehicles

First, dump your girlfriend.
Second, use the insurance money to buy parts for YOUR xB.
Third, be glad you didn't waste money on some chick.

if you want to go a cheaper route, lease the car for a few years, then buy it...basically a lease is building equity in the vehicle...you can check out all the options on scion.com...it ends up being lower payments now and then at the end of the lease it will cost ~6,000 dollars to buy it...i know people have bad views of leasing but it's better then buying a car and having it go down in value, then trying to get rid of it when you'll never get as much as you owe on it...

just my 2 cents

I would say to buy one. Any time You buy a used car you are inheriting someone elses problems- uness you know the car very well. That dosent happen to often.

No, I was thinking preowned as in "certified", or flat out used, and I'm definitely not a "he"!

Thank you for thinking before you post.

If you get used, it helps if it has a warranty, which it should unless it was driven more than normal.

Before you buy it, do a check of everything cosmetic and if you are buying used from a Toyota dealer see if they will replace any piece with damage.

When you get it, do every maintenace prodecdure an owner might do, oil, air filter, rotate tires, etc.

If you gave any problems mechanically get it serviced by a dealer before the warranty runs out.

You should be OK buying used if you do this.
