Default close to buying the car

Hi all, I'm 19 and this will be my first car ever. I am one of those comptuer geeks so I really don't know much about cars. I've been doing a lot of research on the scion xA, and it sounds pretty impressive, though I am still unsure. So my request is this: if anyone knows ANYTHING good about this car that might push me over the edge to get it, that would be nice

also, if I do get this car, is it true that you can't negotiate the price? Can you at least convince the dealers to give you some extra accesories or something?

thanks in advance. Oh yeah, the only things I want to add are passenger side air-bags, and some kind of car alarm. Do you guys know of any other good CHEAP add-ons?

Congrats. Im also looking into getting a xA in the future. Im also a some what computer nerd, but know a good deal about cars also. Get a after market alarm. The factory Scion alarm is a POS at the cost of it. The good points that I like of the car:

Good:
Rear Leg Room.
Gas Milage.
Style.
Its a Toyota.
All the stuff you get stock!

Bad:
Its a econo car, so no world records of 0-60 or quarter mile times.
Not a great aftermarket

Look forward to coming back to the forums & seeing that you got a xA

Well, considering the standard features you get for the cost of the car, it's hard to beat. How many other cars come with ABS brakes, power windows, mirrors, locks, tilt steering and air conditioning for 13K? Then out of those how many have Toyota's quality?

I looked at several other cars before purchasing my xA and almost bought another brand that would have been much cheaper. My wife and I walked out of that sale though because the quality of the xA just felt so much better.

Then add in the gas mileage of the xA, unique looks, lots of tuner options should you want to go that route and it makes for a very good deal.

The xA also has a unique driving position. You sit up higher than other cars in it's class, which gives you a good view of the road. It feels a little funky at first, but I've grwon to appreciate it a lot. The seats are firm and comfortable as well.

My big negatives with the xA are no center arm rest (though you can get them aftermarket), no cruise control (even as an option) and a semi rough ride. The overall low power is fine with me considering it's supposed to be more of an econo car. In all reality with a manual (which I have) it's pretty much as fast as my old Focus that I traded it in for (just a hair slower)

Basically look around, drive cars you are interested in and make the decision you feel best about. I would venture to say that after driving the xA it will stack up favorably against the others.

I am 6'3"

I REALLY like that the xA tricks people. When you look at it, you see scaled down proportions of the Toyota Sienna and Matrix. It throws you off, because your eye is telling you the car is tiny, knowing that the vehicles it looks like are much bigger, but when you sit in the car and look around, somehow it gets bigger.

Go to edmunds.com and compare dimension of the xa to those of Ford Focus hatchback, Chevy Aveo hatchback, and Mazda 3 / 5door. You'll notice that on outside deminsions, the xA is tiny, but inside dimensions are often bigger than the others. This car is really cool and I like that the xBs are selling like hotcakes. It makes the xA more unique.

Oh and if you like gadgets, check out my other form of transportation, which folds down and fits in the back seat of the xA www.trikke.com

no, get the tC!!! lolx, j/k, as long as it's Scion's, it has something unique about it. Every model has something uniqueabout it. Good luck on getting it. Before I got my tC, I actually decided to get the Mazda3. and I went to the Mazda dealer (Rick Case) happily, thinking that Imma get it that day, but then they just fuxked it up, I cant believe how many trickes they've tried to trick me and try to check our credits first before I even talk about the car or price... I just left in the middle of the conversation simpy b/c they're being dishonest to us. Then i called the Toyota dealer at the same day and they delivered the tC to my house 2 days later, how NICE!

BTW, my tC came w/ a FULL TANK of gas too, lolx. And when I told them that we might not be able to get it b/c we checked w/ the insurance company and it was WAY higher than we expected ($1800 semi-annually) They actually helped me look for countless insurance company that satisfy me. how NICE!

One more thing. The xA was cheaper to insure than my old Ford Focus (by around $35.00 every 6 months.)

I have zero complaints for my xA.

I wish it had cruise, but it's not something I HAVE to have.

I bought my xA just yesterday. LOVE IT. I'm in a similar boat as you: computer geek with little knowledge of cars. Go get it!
