Coasting in neutral ... in an auto xB
15,000miles/30mpg = 500gal x $2.85 = $1425
15,000miles/33mpg = 455gal x $2.85 = $1295
the difference is $130/yr ($2.50/wk; $0.36/dy) any type off accident/ticket/fine/damage due to taking the car out of gear would instantly erase any benefit of the higher MPG.
just becareful

I don't believe myself a granny...but an extra 50 miles is $$$ in my pocket.
just remove the snorkel and drive regularly with a light foot. Removing the snorkel alone gave me 2mpg more per tank so far. I even romped on it a few times and it gives you a slight acceleration improvement as well. But to keep doing that would cancel out the benefits of removing it for mpg increase.
Removing the snorkel is the best free mod to do the xb in my opinion!

If in fact your engine is receiving more gas idling than it will in drive while coasting than it might just in fact be defeating the purpose. Someone told me to try it and it was an interesting "strategy" but I wasn't sure of its benefits, or at least noticeable gains.
