15,000miles/30mpg = 500gal x $2.85 = $1425
15,000miles/33mpg = 455gal x $2.85 = $1295

the difference is $130/yr ($2.50/wk; $0.36/dy) any type off accident/ticket/fine/damage due to taking the car out of gear would instantly erase any benefit of the higher MPG.

just becareful

Yes sir!

I don't believe myself a granny...but an extra 50 miles is $$$ in my pocket.

just remove the snorkel and drive regularly with a light foot. Removing the snorkel alone gave me 2mpg more per tank so far. I even romped on it a few times and it gives you a slight acceleration improvement as well. But to keep doing that would cancel out the benefits of removing it for mpg increase.

Removing the snorkel is the best free mod to do the xb in my opinion!

^ He said he tried it and it didn't do anything for him.

Just don't install an intake or exhaust, because you'll be stomping it all the time to hear your work.

Between driving about 65 and driving 80 theres difference in RPM (obviously =P) but what I mean is that when Im going down a hill and doing 80 and take my foot off the gas, it doesn't completely drop rpms, I'm probably around 3,200 or so, and it doesn't drop nearly as fast as if you just put it in neutral. Now coasting to a light is different because its slowing faster, you're anticipating a stop or at least hoping the light turns green before you get there (unless its a stop sign). I'm talking about cruising down a hill between 65-80 and putting it back in drive at that same speed.

If in fact your engine is receiving more gas idling than it will in drive while coasting than it might just in fact be defeating the purpose. Someone told me to try it and it was an interesting "strategy" but I wasn't sure of its benefits, or at least noticeable gains.
