Default Couple of issues I need help with...

Okay people, I need help here.

First thing is that after the box has been sitting for only a little while or longer, it has started bogging down on start up and then boggs slowly at idle until it has been driven for a little. I mean, immediately after I turn the key, engine roars up, then boggs down hard. Oil is full, no codes. I can't figure it out. I have been suggested maybe something with the MAF. ANy thoughts?

Next, my rear windshield squirter doesn't squirt. My fronts are fine, and I can hear the fluid going to the rear, but nothing comes out. I don't know how to check the jet or take out the squirter. Thoughts?

Next, squeaking when the car is in drive. I think it's the belts or maybe lternator, but I know nothing about either. When is a good time to change belts?

Box is just under 5 years old with 69,XXX miles.

Thank you for the help.

Clean your MAF
Fuel Injector Cleaner
New Plugs?

Wax in rear squirter? Frozen? Operator error?

Belt tensioner/idler pulley/new serp belt... check in that order

My suggestion... Set it on fire

^^^^ LOL that is kinda funny.

The bogging down .. clean the MAF. Some use brake cleaner, other like me spend the 5 bucks and get MAF cleaner. 2 screws and it comes right out. You may want to change the plugs too, couldnt hurt. Toss in a can of injector cleane like was also mentioned.

The rear squirter, that is held in by a compression fitting on the back side of the squirter. I believe i removed mine with a pair of needle nose pliers. Remove the squirter and hit the button and see if you have any washer fluid coming out. If not, then trace the hose to the front of the car to make sure its still hooked up. You can trace the hose on the passenger side of the box, under the door sills. It goes through the firewall and up to the pump which sits right behind the inner wheel well on the passenger side front.

The screaming belt is nothing new. They can start to cry after as little as 20K miles. Tightening may or may not help. The B* of it is getting the bottom alt. bolt to break loose. I know there are a few writes up here on SL about it, so i wont bother getting into detail. I can tell you that the best belt on the market .. the OEM one from Toyota. It runs around 30$. I have tried PepBoys brand and Gates ... both of which squeal like a stuck pig after only a few thousand miles. The stock ones last around 25K miles. While your at it, you may want to have the power steering belt replaced, it couldnt hurt. I replaced both mine ( 80K miles ) and Jenns ( 50K miles ) last summer. Luckily i did, as Jenns had a nail through it and the belt was starting to frey.

Chris, tlk90, and Don, thank you very much. I will take the advice but skip over the fire part. Maybe next year.

Get a can of MAF cleaner, it's like 6 bucks and one can will last you forever.

For the belt squeal take a bar of soap and apply to the grooved side of the moving belts. It's an old radiator shop trick that works. Also check the condition/tension of the belts.

What? Are you insane? Why would you run seafoam through the motor? I wouldnt even suggest that unless the plugs have a ton of carbon on them or if the motor is smoking and sputtering. Our little motors are going to bog down, its nothing major, hell, its almost something you can bet on with an auto trans because of the massive torque converter...

I'd also add this to the list above in this thread....
Before you go out buying supplies... check and make sure the butterfly in the throttle body isn't sticking for some reason. That could cause the "bogging" down too.

Mine sticks closed from time to time but it doesn't cause bogging. I have to kick the pedal to un stick it. I'm hoping as time goes by this will stop happening. If not I may pick up a replacement TB.
