Default Cruise control on right side?

My wife just purchased a XB and I want to install cruise. I know of the 2 Rostra units including RF. I am wondering if there is any reason why the stalk can't be mounted on the right side of the column?
I know the text will be upside down, but it would be pretty simple to make up a good looking label to stick on it to correct that. Just the functions would now be opposite. No big deal. For those that have it, what say ye? BTW, I asked for dealer install and they wanted over $600!

I don't know of any reason you can't put it on the right side. A local shop that does vehicle audio and other mods furnished and installed mine for $350., and I know others on here have had it done for less.

I will be installing it myself. I just wanted to know about the possibilities about right side mounting. Because if it's not possible to mount the stalk there, then I might be more apt to order the RF cruise instead as it seems I would be bothered by it on the left after reading all the posts here and yet, I think I prefer the look of the stalk over the RF unit, but only if I can mount it on the right side of the column.

I think the best way to find out is to take the bottom cover off the steering column and see what things look like. I put mine on the left, and I can't say I noticed any obstructions on the right-hand side; but then I can't say I paid any attention at all to the right-hand side.

No cutting involved except for the hole to mount the stalk on the steering column and the gasket to route the wires through the firewall. After reading the instructions, I'm probably going to leave mine to a professional to install- supposedly about 2 hours of labor. I asked my dealership service department if they could do it (so I could drop it off for an oil change and the cruise install) and they acted like I was crazy to ask them to install a non OEM part.

I did my in a day. Wasn't that hard. A little electrial knowledge is a must however. Being flexible doesn't hurt either.

My stalk is on the left and the only problem is accidentally hitting the resume button when I'm using the turn signal. Did it once when in neutral - freaked me out. On my BMW it is on the right and it works pretty well. You could disassemble the stalk and switch the buttons if you like the resume on the top rather than on the bottom or you could try to figure out the wiring and switch wires at the harness - which you have to assemble anyway.

actually I have a question also, I bought a cruise control by rostra on ebay for my xb got it and I am worried. I am getting it installed by a local audio place in 2 weeks but why I am worried is I am 6'5" and my knees are pretty high in it to begin with and it seems to me that i will constantly hit the switch. I got the normal one with the controls coming out of the steering column not the RF one. The guy at the counter said it could be moved up a little maybe but was not sure from where they say to install from directions. If anyone has installed this and has any info that might help me please let me know, thanks.

The rostra criuse is great. However, it is not that easy to install. I self installed mine and it works perfectly. The instructions arn't very user friendly and getting the hook-ups under the dash are a bear to get to. There is plenty of latitude in mounting the the control on the left. You will be drilling the hole. However The Cruise Control Store has a right side control.

Default cruise control

I just installed the cruise control kit you mentioned in your post. I installed it on my 06 xb manual trans. I paid $195 shipped. It took about me about 1.5 hrs to install.
the next one will go alot faster 30-45 mins.
It works and looks factory.
