Default Does armrest interfere with folding seats flat?

I've got an Onyx Blue '06 xB on order that should arrive next Monday. I've been debating whether or not to get the armrest. I have a couple of questions:

1. Is it better to get the standard armrest, or an aftermarket model?

2. I've seen in pictures that it is possible to fold down all the seats in such a way that you could lie down in the car. This seems like it would be really useful for road trips. Has anybody tried sleeping in their car? If you have an armrest, does it stick up and basically defeat the purpose?

Oh, and…

3. People who have an armrest; do you find it useful? Is it worth the money?

1. That's a matter of opinion and debate. I have the OEM armrest in our xB and I like it alot. I have the Boomerang armrest with the optional leather top in my xA, and I like it alot too.

2. Not sure what you mean here. The armrest is in between the seats. They recline backwards. The armrest does'nt get in the way.

3. The armrest makes the car waaay more comfortable to drive. I wouldn't own one without it. Whichever rest you decide you want, it will be worth it.

I have the OEM one in my box as well and I find it to be a bit to small and low for me, I have to lean over just to use it..

And all my seats fold like normal with the armrest installed..

Default Let me rephrase that…

Sorry if I was unclear. I wouldn't expect the armrest to actually prevent the seats from folding down. I just meant that when you do fold all the seats down (as shown here):

It seems like the armrest might stick up and get in the way. Or maybe it fills the space between the seats nicely. That's what I'm wondering about.

Yes it will stick up if you fold them flat. Any of them will, no matter what brand.

the center armrest should come up to about the same height as the in-door armrests.
on the other hand, they are pretty easy to install, so i would imagine they would be easy to take off as well.

Yeah, they would all get in the way for that. My question is, why would you want to do that?
It's too uneven of a surface to put an air matress across. You'd probably just end up sleeping in the seat anyhow,
in which case the armrest would not get in the way. Besides, how often do you really think you'll do that?
You will drive it everyday. The armrest makes driving a lot nicer.

^ not exactly true; i believe i fit a full? or queen matress (its very snug) across everything and it wasnt too bad, though it'll help if you bring something to fill in the front seat dip...

^agreed on the armrest for daily use though,i want one
