Default electric fan?

Ok so I searched for this too. How often should my electric fan be turning on and off? Like when I am sitting say in a drive through with the AC off. I dunno, I am so not used to a toyota that I just want to make sure things are ok with it.

your electric fan is supposed to come on when the engine is running, but you are not moving, therefore, there is no air going through the radiator, and it isn't cooling the engine. the electric fan turns on to pull air through the radiator to keep engine temps tolerable.

the fan in our box should only turn on and off as you toggle the proper switches for it.

i reccomend you spend some time reading your owners manual.

the fan as said above kicks in normally when your at a stop or moving slowly (in stop/go traffic). how often it kicks on and off really depends on the outside temps.

Yeah, my box didnt come with the owners manual. And your box has switches for the fan? Is something you added?

The only "switches" are for the AC fan--the normal HVAC *****. I know you bought used--was it from a dealer? You might want to complain about the owners manual--maybe they will order you one. If not it would be a good investment.

it's normal for the fan to run when you are sitting still. It is a small, confined engine bay and it needs to keep some cooler air flowing in there. With the A/C it runs almost all the time.

OP, I see you live in Arizona, I assume it is pretty warm there. I live in the So. Cal desert myself where it is quite warm and only getting hotter! Anyways, anytime I come to a stop my fan kicks in, so my fan is constantly on and off throughout the day. I wouldn't worry too much, unless you don't hear the fan kick on when you are stopped.

i mentioned in car switches to talk about the incabin air fan. you know the one that blows through your box's vents. that fan. if those are turning on an off at random, you have a problem! LOL!

but the one for your radiator will come on and off as the ecu sees fit.

Even when it's not warm and no A/C, it'll cycle constantly if you're not moving. It's a little weird the first time you notice it since the fan seems louder than some others.

You may want to check the rubber "flappers" on the fan shroud to make sure they're ok. They're so air can flow through while you're moving but blocks air from bypassing the radiator when you're stopped and the fan is running.
